Killed A Rx-8 In My Na Fc
A couple years ago at the street races in tampa i got the chance to race a brand new RX-8 in my 87 fc. We were racing off of 301 in tampa in a little industrial area off the hwy. People thought it would be a good race since i had a 87 fc with a streetport full racing exhaust air intake and 4 puck racing clutch. The Rx-8 was a all black sport one manual tranny. Anyway, we lined up and off we went. I got the jump on him and i stayed ahead the whole time by about almost a car length. It was a good race. I thought i was gonna beat him by a larger margin but i was wrong...but i did win both times we raced.

Well my car was 146hp stock, but i dont think the mods i had would have put it over 200 hp. Maybe i was a bad driver at the time, and i didnt get that good of a start as i thought. But i did beat him.

rx8's are slow and i garuntee you most of the reason rx8's lose all the time is due to driver error, every person i met with an rx8 cant drive worth a ****, i've seen rx8's lose to like civics with exhaust and an intake and some other bolt ons

When I drove the RX-8, it wasn't hard to launch or anything like that, it just simply didn't have any power. I'd like to see a dyno chart off of a stock RX-8 to see what sort of power the car really puts out, because I seriously doubt it's anywhere near 230.
Edit- I went and took a look over at RX8Club.com and they seem to be making around 165-175hp in stock trim. Makes a lot of sense too.

Can 175 hp in a 3000 lb. car make those numbers?
I've driven an RX-8 and they FEEL fast, as long as you keep flogging the hell out of them. Kind of like keeping a VTech Honda in the power band.
Not calling BS on the OP, just...curious.

def trues that driver error plays a big part, a guy locally lost to a bone stock NA scion tc in his 350z w/ exhaust, cai, pulley kit and a few other minor things...he just really sucks as a driver. i also agree that the 8's feel fast though if u constantly wind it out, i enjoyed it and thoguht it was a fun car, but i have also beaten one on the highway in my 90 na fc w/ minor mods. the driver was a few years older than me but whipping through traffic, cutting ppl of, very *******-ish

so what you mean to say is sad drivers right?! I won't disagree with you on the driver part but when driven properly, the rx8 is quick. Just the other night, an 05-06 stock M3 was tailing me and wouldn't let off so I took off and continued to put a lot of space between us as we entered a long series of curves. I know he was trying to keep up because we were both going much faster than the PSL and when I let off, he did a typical fly-by. Anyhow, the point is, don't knock on the car, knock on the driver. No one's claiming that a stock 8 is as good as a 7 but you can't deny that it's a great handling, fun, and practical car.

i TOO killed an rx8 in a first gen bridge ported motor from a dig on slicks got him by 2 or 3 cars. The cars themself are not garbage and it's not from driver error, it's just the lack of power, and limited amount of modifications that can be done to them. Unless he/she go internal on the motors and do some major over hauling and large amounts of upgrades the rx8 is slow as turtle.

Ive raced an rx8 on the highway just for a short pull and he pulled on me noticably , but my car had 2 other people in it and about 50-100 lbs of drywall tools in the back of the hatch.
For the record the rx8 had two people in it and thats it.
So im sure Id of given him a run for his money if i was by myself
Streetported s4 na with full exhaust and upgraded clutch/flyweel and weight reduction.

believe it... I pulled on an RX-8 in my mildly modded 90' NA FC a couple of weeks ago down by the college... it was pretty funny... at the stop light he said,"damn, that thing is fast", and proceded to tell me his car was stock but he had a racing beat exhaust on the way... LOL... i imagined it was probably the driver and maybe he wasnt taking the car to the redline... ???

^ yeah I'm gonna go with that, some people are actually scared to take their cars all the way to redline I've noticed. And with all the noobs that own RX8s these days I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case here. As for the RX8 itself, the competition is the 350Z and it finishes the quarter like .4 seconds faster, is it that big of a deal considering that both cars weren't even built for just drag racing? If I bought one I'd buy it used, for no more than 15k, I don't think its worth much more.
