Killed for inspiration.

On my way home from a nice spirited drive in the mountains, I catch a green turn arrow and take the corner fairly quick, and get close up (not so close to be stupid) to the bumper of a silver STi. I heard an exhaust and a BOV as he punched it and shifted, and thought to myself, "nice car. I can't wait for a turbo."

He passes by a VW, I pass the Dub, and I creep up on him about 5 MPH... when we get bumper to bumper I give it a little gas, he gives a little gas, then the empty traffic light ahead turns yellow.

Perfect.

I'm not one to street race--I just like my spirited mountain drives--but sometimes when the time is right, it's just right. With an empty road as far as one can see, one very red light; I look over, he's looking at me: I give one quick nod and we know it's on.

Bring the revs up to 4K, I hear him do the same, opposing light turns yellow, our light turns green.... "screeeeeeech!" Damn front-wheel-drive--I didn't even dump the clutch. 1st gear is pretty even until about 20 MPH, then he's pulling hard. He absolutely owns me in 2nd (2-3 car lengths) and shuts down. I pass by him (not fly by) and give him the thumbs up out the window, and turn off on my road for home. Nice car.

This makes me curious to see how my TII would've fared. But for how old and how many miles this car is and has, how badly it needs a tuneup, and for being FWD... not bad. Of course I knew I wouldn't even come close to winning that race, but it was cool to see nevertheless.

Probe GT vs. WRX STi = owned. And inspired.

STi are super nice nothing beats japanese rally and porche engines. Porsche is the old school perfofmance car company. But I don't think porsches are that good looking personally that is why I like the STi so much japanese styling porche engine best of both worlds. But anyways if your t2 is heavily modded than it mgiht have a chance. Pending on how well tuned his STi is.

You know it is only a Porsche-style (Boxer) engine, not an actual Porsche engine. Anyway the STi is a great car. It has great power and one of the best AWD systems out there. Depending on mods and driving expirence, you could possibly take him. The thing that suprises me is how he didn't beat you by more, no offense to your Probe.

Way to hang in there! What mods does your Probe have?

P.S. I have a MX-6 LS - Have you been to www.mx6.com or www.probetalk.com ? Awesome sites for Probe/MX-6 info!

It smelled like his STi was running rich, and he shot a small fireball as he shifted. It is very possible that he was short-shifting, and I don't think he launched as hard as he could've.

No offense taken. I know what my Probe is--it's a good daily driver that handles pretty well and accelerates decently--but it is no RX-7; it is no racecar.

I'm surprised I didn't get beaten by more, too. Considering that the ONLY mod on the car is a pair of Silverstar headlights--nothing performance related--and a clutch that slips if I don't shift just right, not bad.

It was a good car to be killed by. I've always wanted to see just what they could do with a few mods.

I actually used to post on both probetalk and mx6.com (not as this alias, though). I guess I just got bored over there. I still check there for info when it comes time to turn a wrench; I just wish the FSM for this car was freely available like it is for the RX-7.
