Killed a CTS
Killed a CTS
I was VERY surprised at the outcome of this one. Last Friday, I was going South on I-87, cruising at around 70, in fifth. I look in my rear view and see a CTS coming up on my tail, probably at around 85. There were no cars ahead of me for a while, and a car maybe 10 car lengths in the middle lane, and a car five car lengths ahead of me on the right lane. When I see him start to merge over to the center lane, obviously curious to pass me, I put fifth to the floor and slowly creep my way up to around 80. Door's closed there, no passing me on the left side, and the right was occupied by then, too.
Once we broke out of that and there was open high way, I see him move over to the center lane again, and once he's almost at about my rear bumper, I downshift to 4 (back at 70-75 now) then quickly downshift to third. Before I got to third though (without stomping it in fourth, just got into fourth to go to third...why I don't know...anyways..) he gets in front of me. He had some momentum, I guess. I quickly whip over to the right lane in third, at around 80, redline, and he's still one or two cars ahead. At around 6000 rpm in fourth I started to reel him in, I'd guess at about 100-105 MPH. He was definitely pushing his car, because I took mine to 125 and had 2-3 cars on him by that time before I started to slow down.
Put my window down to give him a thumbs up, but he was too busy talking on his phone. I had one passenger, he had none. And it was a v-8 model, it had dual mufflers. And it was definitely NOT a CTS-V. A CTS-V would've spanked the **** out of me.
I checked the 1/4 mi times for those things and they're not too quick... Either way, I was surprised my NA FC took a win against it. Mods in sig.

Thanks guys.
Many, I'll be back on the 24. Do you need anything specific for the turbo swap? If you do let me know, and I'll see if I can borrow the tools if I don't have them. I'm guessing it should be straight forward though...

The only CTS that is a V8 is the CTS-V with a 405hp LS6 motor/6speed. I highly doubt it was one of these.... maybe if he raced him in 6th....
It was certainly the lowly POS, portly, and overpriced base CTS. It is a $30K Cavalier with a different body.
