i totally agree that WRX'es are decent car for someone who just wants a bit of power. or someone who the bank wouldnt approve a loan for an FD

its pretty preppy up til about 120km/h after that its just a 3500lbs brick :|

<-----------just finished breaking in my new 06 WRX Wagon, hopefully I can get some times for it soon, but it does not feel that fast. Looking forward to getting an ECU and Turbo-back exhaust, which should get me somewhere around 250+ to the wheels... then it should be fun. still 3200+ lbs though...

FWIW my FD (307rwhp) will simply roast this car from a launch/roll/reverse/ 1 gear off - anywhere but on the ice

grats on the new 06, god they're sexy looking.

if you're looking for an easy tune without a all wheel dyno, check out cobb tuning im sure you've already known about the cobb accessport. but for the 06's 2.5L engine, your torque is wayyyyy improved over the old wrxs, i beleive stage 1 06 wrx will produce like 280ftlbs of torque, and stage 2 flash will output 280hp and 335 ft/lbs!!! .....and the crank.

Stay away from Cobb and generic flashes. Get a custom Ecutek from a reputable tuner. You'll be much happier.

ive been hearing cobb maps with protune pushes out some nice numbers. Cobb accessport for me is a godsend, since the nearest Dyno for me is around 1500km lol. UTEC would have been my choice too, but finding a tuner is the hard part. i'd say if there is one in your area, go with utec tune.

The Cobb AP doesn't do what I need it to (according to cobb) - unfortunate cause I really want to be able to tune it myself. Apparently ECUtek has not released the tuner package to the general public, so I would be forced to have someone else tune it. Bad medicine. I think I'll wait until ECUtek releases the software and have a crack at it myself

Meh. WRX/STi's aren't hard with a 13b and a turbo. I had more fun messing with Vettes than Subys.

yeah for you to be able to self tune, you'll have the buy the accessport for the 06, which is prolly like 600$+ then Street tuner software which is like another 500$. you might as well get something else that 06 front end is nice

I'm pretty sure that the US version of the WRX is detuned for emissions... 250 HP vs 280 for the Japanese version, which is the same as the Japanese STi.

So the base WRX in JP has just as much power as the base STi?

You do know our STi has more power/displacement than the JP STi, right?

Are you sure about the base wrx in JP has just a much power as the Sti?

Yes, I know the US version of the STi is a 2.5 with 300 HP.

But I was pretty sure the power was equal on the Japanese versions of the STi and the WRX... with the main differences been the suspension, tires, body work, transmission, differentials, interior, etc. Even the twin turbo Legacy's of 8 years ago had 250+ HP.

I could be wrong... but I think the J-spec WRX has 280 HP stock, and that the US version is detuned in order to make the STi more attractive and for emissions reasons.

USDM WRX for 2006 has the same bottom end as the STi - Heads, Turbo, Intercooler and ECU programming are different from what I can find. So slightly more than "detuned" but the same basic powerplant

no, actually it was my friend who wanted to compare his acceleration with me off the line, and he actually did launch it. i'm going to say my car was definitely faster off the line because he launched it very well. but after a few runs and me still getting him off the line, we realized that my car most likely had better low end power, until his turbo kicked in. i should have known someone would have started doing that inane-bitching again if i didn't give a detailed description.
