Got a Porsche and a 350z
I just got my FD shipped to Hawaii and met up with a few guys to go cruise. We were on the H1 doing about 60 when a black early 90's porsche with the whale tail pulls up on us and down shifted like he wantd to race. I then happily shifted into third, switched lanes and away we went. At about 100mph I had about 3 cars on him. We slowed down, he gave me the "shaka" while smiling and saying "thats a nice car dude". It sounded like the guy had an exaust and a maybe more. A few hours later fter we finished cruising I was on my way back home about 2:30am when a black 350z pulls up behind me and rides my *** really close then proceeds to do a "flyby". Of course im not gonna let this happen. I shifted into third after he started to pass me, and after playing a few seconds of catch up I had him about 2 cars at about 110mph. We pulled over at a gas station and he has an exhaust, intake and suspension. Said he had it dynoed @303rwhp. I was pretty impressed with how fast it was. Two pretty good kills in one night aint too bad.

well Z is rated 287 hp from the factory but a lot of guys on the 350Z forums have mentioned that this figure is underrated and makes more around 295-300 at the crank, so it wouldn't surprise me that he made 300 at the wheels with intake and exhaust

their factory intake and exhaust system are actually pretty good and
it could not have been that restrictive,, so with aftermarket and intake to make
300whp?? That i will say total BS!!
Stock Z dynos around 230-240whp,,so 60-70 whp gain from those?? lol,,
that guy must have been on something

The guy could have been lying or it could have been one of the 35th aniverssary Z's. I really dont know. I beat him pretty good and I would have expected a 300whp Z to do a little better.

So I went to the guys shop today to look at some merchandise. Not a bad place. Oh and by exhaust he meant headers, hiflo cats and a catback. So his 303rwhp is pretty believeable. Apperently he is making it into a showcase type of car and is putting a greddy twin turbo kit on and some other things. Looking to make about 500 at the wheels. Must be nice to have money to throw around.

where is he getting these numbers from? in his dreams?? lol
let's say he has the 35th anniversary Z... ok 300 bhp that translates to ABOUT 250whp..
So,,,more than 50whp gain from full exhaust system including header on a brand new car??
Z definitely is not an 80's car where just adding an exhaust could free up flow and bump out 20whp..
i've seen mags claim 13whp on just the header for Z,, but claims are always exaggarated...
5whp max on those.. For instance, most of rx8 exhausts out there claim 10-15whp increase
except for racing beat.. but truly its more like 3-5whp increase...
So the bottom line is..
I wouldnt' trust him unless he showed u a dyno sheet
and i didn't know greddy kit was capable of making 500whp
what turbo do they use again???

AFAIK, there are no VQ 35 motors that have as of yet achieved 300 WHP. Some are getting close, but not there yet. The ones that are close, have Intake, Intake manifold changes, Headers, No cats or high flow cats, Exhaust, Cams.
The VQ is an efficient engine out of the box and does not get massive improvements from bolt ons that lower HP/Liter motors get, such as LS series motors.
