Thumbs up Got a new Mustang GT on my way to work

Driving to work this morning @ 6:00 on I-5, no traffic, cool morning after a rain. See 4 sets of lights coming up behind at about 85, I'm going 80. Gets closer and I can tell it's one of the the new Mustangs GT's with driving lights on and he's sitting in the fast lane. I match his speed and shift down to 4th, he speeds up to 90 and then hits it. I'm ready for him and punch it - pull 2 cars on him to 120, shift to 5th and got another 2 on him by 140. My offramp is coming up so we slow down, he gives me the thumbs up I wave, go to work with a big smile on my face His car still had dealer plates on it, poor bastard, mines got a salvage title, 55k miles and maybe $15k into it. I've got all the bolt-on's, high flow cat, boost controller set at 11psi, and a power fc running base mod map.
His car looked to be stock, but I have to admitt, with the yellow and black stripes that car looked almost as sexy as mine......

Yeah my brother has one, I usually hate mustangs, but the new ones are really nice (if its a GT of course). He is just starting to get the mod bug so that is cool, but he can't touch me in my FD, well he can for now since my car is down but when I get it back it is no contest.

Nice kill. I was in Killene/Ft. Hood during lunch traffic when a new black GT came onto the freeway and saw me. Once he looked over he floored it and started weaving through traffic like he was in the third Fast and Furious movie. Probably some military punk with no respect for fellow drivers.

I don't really care for the "retro" look....and it's a Mustang

I killed one about 3 weeks ago, good run up to about 100, they are fairly quick

time to go BNRs!!

Nice kill.

I just want to comment on the usual sayings: "i totally killed his car thats 10-15 years younger than mine" or "too bad for the owner, he (or she) just paid $90,000 for his new porsche when i beat him (or her) in my $20,000 FD."

age and price dosnt matter. I don't care if your car is $5000. Enough money spent can make a Geo Metro beat a Ferrari. if you have a new engine, its not an "old" car anymore. if you mod it, the other guy who spent $90,000 on a Porsche can prolly spend the same you did on your car on his car and destroy you.

sayings like that are as old as ricer fly-bys are to civics. but its not justified because we take care, mod and, sometimes, live by our cars.

it would make much more of an impact if one kept his FD completely stock, same engine and such and raced that 2005 mustang GT. its a better comparison as we're now seeing what technology and engineering back then can do when put up against technology and engineering of today.

comparing a stock 2005 mustang to a modded 12/13 year old car is like comparing a brand new off-the-shelf suit to a tailored one 12/13 years old. the older one still fits better....unless you grew.

sorry for the rant, hope you see what I mean.

Yes, I understand where you are coming from. It is much more fun for me to take something that has been deemed "old" "quirkey" "salvaged", with my time and attention, and a few $, have a car that is equal to or in a lot of aspects, better than something that someone went to the showroom floor and plunked down big bucks for. I can afford to make payments on a $90K car if I so choose, but to take the more difficult route and build something on your own that holds it's own - great feeling..

Thanks for understanding and being mautre about my comment.

But awesome kill none the less........but speaking of resurrected muscle cars, we don't have GTO's in Canada. Have you raced one? Those things have 400HP right?

I thought the new ones had 400hp? I'm pretty sure I saw a video of a 400hp gto racing a 350hp gto and both were stock.

Sounds like time for a test drive! There is a GM dealer down the road from where I work.

point is, to fairly say a 15 year old car can beat a modern one, it should be a 15 year old stock FD vs. a stock 2005 mustang. once modding comes into play, age doesn't matter. as improvements have already been made.

and who keeps their cars stock? I know of some people who enjoy driving completely stock cars. i asked some of them your question and they all said the same thing: everyone else's is modded. seeing a stock one is rare. this pertains to not just RX-7's.

I personally think the 2003/2004 GTO was a waste. it didn't have enough to set it apart. now that it has 400hp and the hood scoopes....YAY!
