Got me another Corvette. You'll understand soon enough.

First of all, this is not one of your 'MONSTER 500HP TII KILLS NOS'D UP Z06!!!111!!!one!!!' stories. In fact, its not impressive at all, considering my adversary's car. So, here it goes. I was driving down highway 470, which is a two laner with a 55mph speed limit. If you do 55mph out here, you'll get run the hell over, so most people do between 60 and 70mph. Anyway, I'm driving along, and I come up behind two cars. The one in front is an orange Nissan Xterra, and the one stuck to on his bumper is a late 70's to early 80's white Corvette. It looked pretty nice from a distance, just kinda dirty, but when I got closer I realized that it was quite a piece of ca-ca. It SCREAMED white trash special. The rear wheels stuck out about 2" past the fenders and were wrapped with what appeared to be truck tires. Not only that, but the damn thing had ugly *** chrome hubcaps with fake knockoffs and the rear window was plastered with JEGS, Sunoco, CraneCams, and NASCAR stickers. Well, back to the story. We're cruising along at 50mph behind the geezer in the Xterra when finally a hole opens to pass. I drop into 2nd and get ready to go after the Vette. Sure enough, I hear the T350 downshift and see the car jerk violently to the oncoming lane. I see this and figure "lets see how I do against one of these" so I floormat the go pedal. I proceed to follow the Chevy around the Nissan. We merge back over, and he slows down to 60, so I just flick it into 5th. We continue for about 5 seconds and I hear the auto downshift again, and the secondairies of his carb open back up and see little poofs of black smoke exit the exhaust, so I drop back to 2nd and floor it. To my astonishment, I'm growing ever closer to his bumper. I let off and put it into neutral to see if he's acctually flooring it, and I immediately realize that yes, yes he was, and still is, on it. At this point I'm still coasting at about 70mph from topping 2nd, so I put it into 3rd and get back into the "race". I get on the guys bumper and see the rear end of the car lift back up as the sillouette of the ballcap wearing hellraiser looks around with body language that signified that he was thinking "WTF?" I see him jerk his head back forward and he stomps it again. I stay in 3rd and go ahead and get on it again. This time I go ahead and go around him. I look over and see the classic jaw-dropped redneck in denial look on his face. He then punches the steering wheel and hits the brakes. He got me back a few days later though, because he also happens to have a modded 95 Impala SS, and he pretty much did the same **** to me, lol. By the way, I was driving my '90 N/A FC GXL with a 2.5" header, cone filter ( ), 14" E-Fan, removed A/C, HKS Hi-Power eBay knockoff mufflers, and 190,900 miles.

lol alot of people who own the 80's vettes just to say they have a vette dont realize that era was awful for power. (not saying they arent capable, because they are very capable of being faster....just they were built with low compression and smog **** and it killed it). So most people that drive those have them stock and think they are badass....cant count the times ive seen them passed by cars that most people would say "that thing has no chance against a vette".

really i thought that was back in the 70s...emissions choked the life out of the V8s and opened up the door for rice rockets!
to think during that time it was a toss up between a 911 and a vette(as far as "thats what i'm gettin once i get a license)...of course i was about 5 at the time. lol

I want a Omni GLHS. There is a modified one that hangs out near my own town, bigger turbo, big intercooler, and he won't pop his hood !

lol theres a guy with a GLHS around my area, he always talked smack on my friends eclipse rs and my pgt. my friend smoked him, i had no reason to race at that point. he never did stop talking about our cars though.

-that aside, the 80's were good for the grand national and the Fox MGT and Fox 2.3T SVO

i'm going to disagree with that statement, considering that probably the greatest car of all time was built in the 80's....the Ferrari F-40

That wasn't to affordable back in the 80's...at least to most of us. Besides, where else can you put the kids and wife in a car, along with some luggage and STILL run a 13?

It's been awhile since I looked at the numbers, but I'm pretty sure that the 1978 corvette ran a 15.7 quarter mile, the 1979 vette ran a 15.8, and the 1980 vette ran a 16. I think it was also 1978 when Dodge's "Lil Red Express" truck could beat the vette in either the 0-60mph or 0-100 feet race.

The old turbo Dodges are pretty cool, except for the FWD. You could/can get a performance pack from Mopar Performance that I think puts them in the 13s. There was a guy in Maryland that had a Lebaron running 10s, but I don't know if he is still around.

emissions started in 72, everything after that is like a drummed down, low compression **** fest. but alot of those cars just need new, non smog heads and they will be up to pre emissions again.
