First race since the rebuild :)

It's been quite a while since I got to race the FD. In October it went in for a rebuild. I got it back with a few minor problems, so it has not been on the road much while everything got sorted out.

Anyway, on to the race

I'm waiting at an intersection waiting for traffic to go by. A guy in a Miata drives past, and chips his tires at me ............. twice!!! I follow him, and we both go to the freeway on ramp. Looking at his car, I can see it has been lowered. It is a bit louder than stock. It also has racing seats, harnesses, and a roll bar. He gets on the on ramp, and I follow. He gets on it, and goes pretty good. Its a turbo Miata!!! I'm ready, and keep up. We hit traffic, and have to wait about 1 mile before it clears. I pull into the right lane, and we both hit it from about 75 mph. I wind 3rd up to about 95, and pass him. 4th gear goes in smoothly, and I pull about a car and 1/2 on him before shutting down around 120 mph.

We both pull off at the next ramp to chat. He's a college student, that does a bit of road racing, mostly at Thunder Hill. The Miata is pretty well set up. It's got a Garrett turbo, a stand alone computer, and all the extra stuff that goes with it.

I asked him if he was surprised that I passed him. He said "not really. I figured you might be faster." We chatted for about 15 minutes, and then left in opposite directions. Nice guy, and nice car.

That was pretty fun for my first race after the rebuild

He said the Miata was putting down 230 at the wheels, and was 2300 lbs. Thats a pretty good hp/weight ratio. I'm not sure what my car is putting down. It should be in the 300 range. I still have all my smog stuff except for the precat.

Good kill. Surprising to hear about one coming from San Luis Obispo. I lived there for about 5 years when I was younger. Who would have thought a seven was lurking around there? JK!

What area are you in? I'm actually going down to Morro Bay this weekend.

Yeah, the paint wasn't so good. The car was black. I'm not sure about the top. It may have been a hard top. He is a poly student. It was a fast car, and would give you a good race . Sorry I got to him first

I know this guy. His name is Andrew. I've only meet him once, but drove with him and he was a cool guy.

It's good to know there are other RX enthusiasts nearby.
