FD vs. M-B SL500 AMG

FD vs. M-B SL500 AMG
I decided that, because it was the day before Turkey Day and traffic would be light for my commute into work, I would drive the FD today. While en route, some guy in a Mercedes Benz SL500 AMG (not sure the year, but the latest raked body) was weaving in and out of traffic, riding everybodies' bumpers looking for an opening to leave everyone. Despite his efforts, he still ended up getting stuck at the upcoming traffic light. I had pretty much let this idiot go thinking he was being a tool. Well, when he got caught at the light, I ended up right behind him. I was almost certain on the green he was going to go for it, so I thought , if he does, I would run it. But then I guess reason prevailed (or he realized I was in an FD and he might just get embarrassed in his kagillion dollar sports), as he left the light like granny just took the controls. Even the Nissan Sentra in the lane next to him made better time off the line.
I think the word is out on us guys! Nice to see the rep carries some weight.
Seriously, do you think I had a chance, nevertheless? I'm not sure what the latest SL500 AMG is rated at.
My mods: DP, 99 J-spec turbos, RB catback exhaust, modified airbox intake, Greddy SMIC, Greddy E-01 boost controller @ 10 psi, Tokicio shocks.

This guy appears to have been a poser. The badging for the AMG massaged SLs are SL55 AMG and SL65 AMG. The 55 gets a supercharged V-8 w/ 493 hp and the 65 is a twin turbocharged V-12 w/ 605 hp. Maybe he had an AMG installed sound system?!

Well, according to Road & Track, the SL 500 does a 0-60 in 6.1 so that would not have been a contest. The SL55 AMG, on the otherhand, does a 0-60 in 4.5. On a good day, I might (emphasize might) have stayed with him.
To support higher boost, I would probably need to flow more fuel. Just the same, I really am not looking for more power or performance. I have done the reliability mods and that is plenty enough for me.
By the way, Elisha is my favorite Girl Next Door too!

god your telling me, it makes a noise like a beast from Doom(video game, not the crappy movie) and takes off. im wondering what those things will run with some drag slicks and a few minor bolt on mods (intake, catback, ecu). no doubt there is plenty of left over power.

I ran one of the *new* SL500's in my TII. It was a middle-aged man with sunglasses on, top down and fresh dealership tags.
I got him to punch it at around 80 or so. Needless to say, he walked me at first and actually WAVED at me as he was pulling away, but then after he was about 3 cars ahead he stopped pulling. He actually looked over his shoulder once to make sure. I think he thought it would've been a blow-out.
We went to about 115mph before he shut-down. Even though I got beaten, I didn't feel too bad because I could tell I had suprised the owner of the $100k Mercedes.
This is with the stock turbo with intake/exhaust etc. running 12psi.
I also raced a slightly modd'd Camaro Z28 that day and it was dead even through all of 4th gear. 80-125mph Then again, I don't ascribe much value to V8's. I wanted to > him.

Open Mouth, Insert Mouth. Thank you, Come again!
you really should consider that sometimes people may know what they are talking about, however considering a lot of what i see on this board i almost see where your comming from. also maybe you didn't realize your talking to someone who has driven just about everything you'd want to and a lot you wouldn't between a 3 speed automatiac 3 cyl geo metro. on up to M-B CL55 and SL55 AMG, Dodge Viper GTS ACR, Corvette Z-06, Ford GT(no, not the mustang), Lotus Esprit S4, Jaguar XKR, i really could go on, but i think, and hope you get the point...
