i did a search to see if anybody had done this before but i could only find FBs racing v6 stangs and beating them... so... what do you guys think?

My car is a 85 gsl-se. Its got a racing beat header with a straightpipe to a magnaflow muffler, and a msd ignition. A few other small things and some weight reduction but not too much.

there are two mustangs that want to race me, both are my freinds so its just fun and games. We will probably do it somewhere safe or at the track. ONe is a 95 GT, its the last year with the 5.0L, im pretty sure i will loose to him, but do you think i can at least keep up? It has alot of miles so hopefully the engine is getting tired or something. the other one is pretty much the same but its a auto and has got th 4.6L. what do you guys think?!

You lose. Thats what I think. When my GXL was n/a I lost to my buddy in his 78 Chevy Nova with a 350 in it.

a 2gen is heavier than a 1st gen. It depend how you drive, you could hang with them.

well the 95 5.0s were detuned and heavy. the 85, 87-92s were the ones that were fast from the factory.

Depending on what 4.6 your other friend has, the 96-98s were slow, but the 99+ make a good deal of power...so I'd be careful with that one.

What about the new GT Mustangs? Will the 1st gen keep up?

Brand new 05+ Mustangs? GTs run high 13s/low 14s, and the new V6 is running 15 flat-ish

wow, im suprised, i would have thought the 5.0 would stomp my car. i know the fox body style ones are pretty quick, but i guess htey got slower after that. the auto is a 97 i believe so i SHOULD take him? i will let you guys know the outcome when it happens. thanks

I dunno TOO much about first gens but a mid 90s GT stangs run high 14s/low 15s at the track, my friend's ran a 14.9 bone stock just to give you an idea, you'll probably lose if you're near stock but not by much. You might get him on top end

comig from the previous owner of a mustang gt u can probably beat BOTH the 5.0 in the 95 body style mustang was the slowest v8 stang ever produced. The 96-98 was a little better but had a different was detuned for the modular motor at 235 horse. The 99 plus has 260 horse and my auto astang ran a consistant 15 stock and with exhaust and intake ran a 14.5 so you should be able to beat both of these if u think that you can run anywhere lower than 15.5 or so.

my fb(full exhaust, magnaflow muffler) ran about even with a 03 GT at the track, 9.60 for him, 9.62 for me, after 100 mph, you're toast. My girlfriend has an 01 GT (auto) and she can't catch me until right around 100, then she just frikkin runs away from me. her car will do all of 150mph and then some, ask me how i know..

hate to say it but you wont win... either race...and if by close you mean back bumper then maybe... your car is a high 15's mid 15's at best... you will lose

that said there is always the what if factor... what if his motor blows, car spins out, never hooks up, bald tires, cant drive, thinks the R gear is RACE,, there are alot of factors in it any man out comes .. no1 can tell you if you will win or lose but the odds are not for you

you are only a few hrs from me....4 i think any money races down there for a 1.1L

i could pull on the 95-98 ones a couple good lengths in my car. the 99-2004 models ran dead even. this was in a 2nd gen with light weight reduction, headers,straight exhaust,ignition,true CAI. so with simliar mods, and your car being lighter i think it will be a close race.

I'd put my money on the 70's vintage Mustang II's being the slowest v8 'Stangs ever - magazine tests put them at 0-60 in 10+ seconds - even Toyota Corollas with the base engine can run away from that now.

Without porting or higher compression or the lighter rotors from the later S5s, I doubt a basically stock SE is even going to crack better than high 15s, so I suspect both your friends might run away from you in a drag. However, traction and a good launch count for a lot, so you don't know without trying. It's not like you're racing for pinks - take it to the track and find out for real. Bench racing proves nothing.

In my previous GSLSE I managed a best 1/8th mile of 9.6 on drag radials (1.9 60' time), exhaust, efan and coils/msd box only mods, which according the the 1/8th - 1/4 mile calculator puts it around 14.9.

Depending on the particular year of mustang and the skill of the drivers, the GSLSE could win, by a nose.

By the same token, don't overestimate a 13b - magazine tests I've seen put the GSL-SE and S4 GXL within a tenth of each other stock - at 16.5 for the SE vs 16.4 for the GXL, both at 85mph in the quarter. Long way from high 14s to mid 15's that any decently driven v8 stang from about '85 on should be able to do, assuming the stang isn't a tired motor/poor tune (and of course, the same for the 7 for that matter). So a stock FB or FC isn't really likely to do much but watch the Mustang's taillights - of course, assuming similar driver skills and the rest.
