Evo VIII MR vs. stock fd3s

so, I just bought my fd about a month and a half ago, with a new rebuild (dealership had it rebuilt as it was blown when traded in). just got my engine broken in, gave it an oil change, so naturally I was out cruising. this guy pulls up next to me in an evo, says he just traded his subie for it, and wants to see what he's got. so I was like HELL YEAH!!! we went out of town, to the very last stoplight, and wait for it to turn red. I set my revs @ just over 4 grand, and wait. light changes, and he's off like a bat out of hell. I get through second, grab 3rd, catch him before the end of 3rd gear, and by the end of 4th gear I had him by at least 4-6 car lengths (according to the guy behind us, who's in my car club) and just kept walking away in 5th. I thought for sure that thing was gonna kick my ***. I love my car.

you ever thought that maybe he let off, and are your for sure it was like 5-6 cars. Good kill, but I think you were just caught up in the momment. My boy has a right hand drive 3rd gen. V-mount intake down pipe full exhaust custom 3inch pipes coming off the turbo into the v-mount and the greddy elbow coming off the throttle body to the v-mount.

Oh **** my bad I pressed post before i was done. But anyway what I'm saying is that my boy with his FD ran an Evo MR from a dead start, he bairly got the MR by one car if not a half. And on top of the that the evo is 4 wheel drive so he had the whole shot, the fd had to play catch up, now that was a good run. I don't think your bull shitting but hats off to ya

yeah, seriously, hard to swallow. MRs run 13s with bad drivers. if you were 5to 6 ahead, that just about a second in the 1/4.

yea thats bs, my car is running 13.0's and i had to play catchup like a **** to pass one, and only beat him by a car maybe not even. i definately dont believe this, i've seen stock fd's get creamed by regular evo's.

from a dig i dunno. but u have to think of it like this, Evo has 276 hp, so im guessing its getting 230-245 to the wheels with awd loss ( i could be wrong) and the FD stock gets 225. Fd is lighter by almost 400lbs, so maybe Fd could stay with or pull on a eVO on a roll. but it will struggle. A 300 whp Rx-7 though will easily beat a evo from a roll.

Nice kill. I don't know about the amount of car-lengths, but if you pulled past him at the top of third-gear, and then kept going through all of fourth gear and into 5th ? That's a full-on, all-gear race... I'm not suprised that once the AWD lost it's advantage the FD pulled and kept pulling.

No ****... I dont even like racing that fast... Ill beat you to a hundred, but midway through 4th or so is as fast as I wanna go on the street. Good kill though, I love EVOs,Id prbably trade my FD for one. And I might, theres a III running around for sale that is catching my eye.

actually alot of people are saying that the mr's are underrated, and with a few bolt ons and reflash they are hitting high 11's

Well, he did say he pulled on him in 4th gear, which is above 100 mph.

I'v driven a bolt on evo pretty hard, and I remember that once I hit triple digits it definitely ran out of steam.....

The IX's are faster than the VIII's by a bit, and are you sure he didn't have a reflash or any other mods? A 300whp FD should easily walk a 270whp Evo, especially with the weight difference of about 400lbs. A IX with simple, easy to hide mods can get very close to 300awhp.

A stock VIII MR v. a stock FD should be a VERY close race, but with a good launch the Evo should win. By telling us that you pulled 4-5 lengths you are only showing us that you are exaggerating, or that the Evo didn't have a decent driver.

^^ it would take a person with down syndrome to loose by 5 car lengths in an mr... although, i do rememebr hearing stories of people running 14's even 15s with stock evos when i was an owner and part of evom.net. like south park said this season... "1/4 of all americans are retarded."

the iX has mivec which comes in handy after the launch along with the AWD loss. Therefore the ix is faster than the previous Evo's.

All MIVEC does is shorten the lag. It compensates for the larger turbo, and it comes in handy for more power with a tune.

mivec is just the variable valve timing i think. not big on it. the evo8s have more potential for enourmous power.
