We went on a great rally cruise and summer festival yesterday. A couple of C6 corvettes (1 Z06), another 335i, really cool Ferrari 308 GTB, a SL55 AMG and a vintage 5 series, quite the ecclectic mix. We rally cruised some great roads and then did a local town parade and car show, had lunch and then took off again for another rally cruise.

This time about halfway through everyone bailed except for me and the SL 55 AMG as we were both taking the same route back home. We started north on 446 towards Bloomington and across Lake Monroe. The first part of the drive is a two lane road with occasional expansions to 3 or 4 lanes because of the topography as you run through the canyons. It is mostly straightaways and long sweeping turns.

Well I had been watching the SL 55 in my rear view mirror for a while and at the first expansion to two lanes on our side, I got in the right lane and slowed down to let him catch up. We played for a few minutes and then I took off but he was not yet catching on. I slowed down again to about 50 and started beeping the horn. He caught up and got the message this time.

I downshifted to 3rd and then we both floored it. He put 1 car length on me rather quickly and then I started to creep back on him ... 1 inch at a time. We ran to about 120 and I had improved to about 1/2 car length and at that point he lifted and I flew by. He obviously had me the whole time, but I was surprised I was actually able to start reeling him back in. I am running about 5psi over stock.
