Cobra VS IS300

Friday night I was comming home from a party. I decided to drive the cobra because I haven't had it out in months due to the weather. This weekend it was finally nice. No rain or snow, clear roads, and cool. Didn't really drink because I had work early the next day and I decided to leave early. On the way I saw a car pulled over on the side of the highway. As soon as I passed him he tore out. I saw it was a Lexus IS300 and it sounded turbocharged. I waited so he could get along side of me and we did a 3rd gear punch. I pulled pretty hard and shut down somewhere in 5th gear. He caught up to me and yelled out the window what I had done. We decided to pull over and talk. The guy was pretty cool. From what I remember he had a supra bottom end, t61 turbo, and a greddy e-mange and supporting mods, and was capable of running 17 psi boost. He said he was running 13 psi on that run. We exchanged numbers and decided to race again. He said he was going to tape it. This time he said he was going to increase the boost. The race went with similar results to the last one except he was a bit closer and I missed 4th gear. Anyway, I decided to head home after that and call it a night.

wow thats interesting. even on 13psi from a 61mm turbo, i'd imagine he'd trap around 118 in the 1/4 so it shoulda been a little faster than it was... ?

496 at the fly or rear wheels? Either way, pretty impressive.

I am in Nj as well. I know of at least 2 Turbo IS300 one crashed last year at E-Town the other guy lives in the Mahwah area. I wanna say his name is Tommy but I could be wrong. Full supra motor & 6spd car. Sp67 Turbo , FMIC etc.... Anway claims 680 rwhp range and low 11 secs. Raced him on 287 from a roll in at 12psi from 40mph. Put about 5 cars on him , car was fast but no traction in the lower gears at all. From a70mph roll he ran much better only a 2 car lead at 12psi !!! Great story and kill ....

I dynoed 496 to the wheels 2 winters ago. It was like 20 degrees out and I was running 26 degrees of timing. I have since backed off the timing like 6 degrees to be a bit more conservative.

That's it, my wife's next car is going to be an 03 or 04 Cobra.

I know this is off topic, I know you like the power, but do you like the nudge/spoiler that came with those cars? Just curious.

Yes I love it. I believe ford really got body styling right with the 03-04 cobras. Kind of like Mazda did with the 3rd gen rx7.

INteresting....I just bought a '95 SC300 with a BL 67 and supporting mods from my nephew. He said he's outrun a cobra w/ 600+whp (after market SC) but I think he would always preferred to go from a 3rd gear speed. I just put 275/40's on the back and it still won't hook up in 2nd gear over 5k rpms.....no LSD:-( probably the same with the IS 300....although low 11's is pretty quick. I anxious to see how my SC300 matches up...... I don't think my RX-7 with only 300whp can hang with it..... Nice post!
