Civic SI goes down to gsl-se

i ran my buddies civic si over the weekend, his mods, , header, skunk2 intake, exhaust and an act street / strip clutch.

my mods are as listed.

racing beat full exhaust, no cats, racing beat header....
running a little too rich

racing beat springs and shocks as well.

ok, so here's how it went dotn, i was on my way home from work, bumped into him on the loop, we were rolling at about 40, in a 45 zone, just looking at eachother.

he shouts over "wanna run from a 40?!"

i say, ok, we just stay at 40, along side eachother...

well, he honks 3 times, i drop into second as does he, i jump a fender, he catches up, were even and once again, like most other kills, my long third gear allows me to just pull and pull, i shut down at the mid of 4th ( i know, a little too fast for the street ) about a car and a half ahead.

all in all, i thought i would have lost....

it was a good fun time though.

I assume '99-'00 Si?

Sounds like it was a good race, kind of surprized you didn't pull harder, your mods should have you in the high to mid 14s. Have you checked your 5th and 6th ports to make sure they're operating correctly? If they're stuck and you wire them open, it'll feel like a whole new car.

Are you frikkin' kidding me???

You really think a GSL-SE with exhaust is going to run mid/high 14's???

Probably closer to mid/high 15's. A stock GSL-SE probably runs a mid 16 second qtr. stock (if not slower).

BTW, that's a kill I want to hear about. Yay FB!!! Must've felt good.

stripped hatch, full exhaust, no cats and a header....

ehehehehe

at any rate, i thought gsl-se's ran mid 15's stock.

i assumed that ive been running low 15's maybe high 14's at best.

my main performance comparison, i dont wish to post, due to people calling bs.

i guess i may as well post it and just wait for the flags to fly, but i ran my buddies stock, auto rx8.....

(puts on flame suit) we stayed neck and neck till about 110.

then he pulled on me, so ive got no idea what time range that puts me around.

i would also say im a pretty competent driver, we all know driving skill has LOTS to do with who wins in a race between close matched cars.

so maybe if eddie was a better driver, i would have lost to the si?

GSL-SE hits supposedly 15.9 stock, with header and catless exhaust they gain an unbelieveable amount.

Maybe a GSL-SE owner with similar modifications will post and vouch.

My GSL-SE has header & exhaust. Feels like mid to low 15s, I don't drag race it though.

Like i was saying, ive run with low 15 cars before and hung... and depending on driver, sometimes you win a few, lose a few.

my buddy tracked a 14.8 in his 240sx, ka engine, full exhaust, intake and misc. suspension mods and had the slip to prove it from hallsville dragstrip and i ran him when i first got the car, i got him half a car off the line and stayed there till top of 3rd, as soon as i put it into 4th he walked me a car.

i would assume that would mean im low 15's?

maybe mids?

either way, i need more power lol.

my initial plan was to drop a 13b-t in her, but now that im making really good money at a new job, im going to just save, wait for the engine to pop and go with a 4 port 13b, half bridge and a webber 48.

needless to say i will have to buy a beater as well.

one day i will get to post about z28 and trans am kills possibly....

My SE bone stock with frozen 5th and 6th ports ran even with a Grand Am SE, i was actually ahead by about 4ft until after what would be a quarter mile, then his bumper lined up with mine, after i wired open the ports and ran a full exhaust, i felt a huge improvement. I raced a Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS afterwards which hit a 15.5 at the drag strip, i killed my car off the line because my side of the road was downhill, i floored it and started catching him quick, i missed 3rd due to bad synchros and by the end of 3rd i was about a car behind after being a block behind off the line.

A friend of mine raced a Silverado SS which is a 14.5 second truck with his GSL-SE with full exhaust, he ran even with it.

Believe it or not guys...14 sec is pretty darn fast.

I would have to see a time slip to believe it would run 14s. Sounds like a 15s car from the mod list.

i wouldnt say fast...

quick yes, fast no.

fast is more of a low 13 and beyond ehehe.

where i live, theres ALOT of fast cars, ben blaylock has an 800rwhp supra, kenny with a 650rwhp mustang and numerous modded v8's running around town.

so i will by no means use the word fast to describe my car lol.

im positive i havent broken into 14's i would say low 15's.

for now, ive removed alot of stuff off my engine, ac, ps, all emissions, i just need to fab an intake and get an e-fan and maybe i can break high 14's...MAYBE.

oddly, im from the other forum (nopistons) and dont cross post often, however, people here seem more inclined to listen first bfore raising the BS flag.

over ther i got told my gsl-se with mods would run no better then a 17.
but that was only one member, who was a t2 owner and had NO na experience.

his excuse, well i saw a stock gsl-se run an 18 at the track a week ago.

i tried to explain to said member that not all cars are in good condition, could have had some serious engine problems and was running for the hell of it.

oh well, long post i know.

gsl-se with a weber and full exhaust and a clutch to handle it will get you into the 14.7 range with radials, 14.4 with drag radials. the end
