BMW 3 Series vs 1.8t Jetta
Let me start by saying that if you have vanity plates on your car, you better have a good grasp of just how good/bad your car really is. That said, on with the story.
On my way home from work I was stuck in traffic the whole way down the freeway. Stupid people right and left and the problem was only compounded by some middle aged bald man having a midlife crisis in a Corvette, who would not get out of the fast lane and also would not go over 60 MPH. Needless to say, by the time I finally got into town I was not in a very good mood.
As I am heading down the main strip and about to turn off on the street that I live on, I hear a mind numbingly loud fart can exhaust coming up behind me. I move into the turn lane and a black 3 series BMW comes flying up behind me. As we turn onto the next road it has 4 lanes, which allows him to get up next to me. There are not many cars around us, so I slow down a bit to get a look at his car (Since I have a BMW as well). It is black on black tint with a license plat that says "2sick", fart can exhaust, debadged (so I couldn't tell what kind of 3 series), and is lowered (but the camber is way off). Anyway, we end up hitting a red light and I pull back up next to him. As I'm looking at his wheels and some repainted body panels the guy starts reving his engine at me. Now, at first I thought it was kind of funny, but then he looks over, looks at my car, and shakes his head. The car I'm driving is the 01 Wolfsburg Jetta I bought my wife. It's black on black with black tenzo wheels and medium black tint.
When the light turns green he takes off. I stomp on it after he is about a car ahead of me, but I end up pulling half a car on him by the next stop light. This time he stages a lot higher and waits for the light to change, so I do the same. This time off the line I pull about half a car on him in first. Second gives me about another half a car. Third really starts to stretch us out and I end up about 2-3 cars on him, but then I have to shut down to make the turn for my place. He goes tearing by me as I'm slowing down with my blinker on and is still reving his engine at me. I think if it were not for the speeds we had just blown down the street at, I might have been up for another run, but there are not that many black on black VW's with black wheels in my area.
In the end it was pretty apparent that it was not an M3. An M3 should have been pretty much dead even with me until about 85-90 when his gearing would have started to out walk my turbo. Anyway, I just thought it was absurd to have a license play of "2sick" when your car loses to a Jetta.
