Slight difference. Granted with an auto is pretty easy to be consistent. traction control cant hurt you either. I know a blown V8 putting down that kind of hp is no joke, but it takes a lot to move 4k+lbs and thats why as long as you dont miss a shift you should be a ble to take him. Wait you got a single with close to 400rwhp right? lol
Good luck and please make sure you get it on video!
I'm pretty sure that these cars run in the 12s for sure, since the kid I raced in the vid I posted a while back he did a 12.7.... Actually here's his car and time slip.
http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...slip-5170.html They're two different cars, this one's lighter and has less hp.

The SLK55 is N/A & weighs less. The SL55 weighs more but has a blower. They are both mid 12 sec cars in stock format. The SLK55 makes less power, obviously, but weighs less & has a 7 Spd Auto tranny that keeps the power at its peak while the 5 Spd Auto SL55 doesn't operate in its peak powerband as much (but hey, its got a lot of power & torque to compensate). I think both Benzos are about evenly matched. You should NOT have a problem dispatching the SL55 if its stock & you don't blow your launch.

Good luck,
-Matt

I am a mercedes guy at heart, but the guy sounds like an A-hole so hopefully you'll rape him. Just be carefull and dont take him lightly, Amg's have supprised more than a few unsespecting sports cars. But your car sounds pretty frickin fast so you should take him.

I know it has been said, but just be sure to get the launch down and dont miss-shift, the SL55 is no slouch and you can be a complete idiot and still run the times that it has been tested at. Just punch it and hold it to the floor, let all the computers take care of the rest. You should take him but a bad launch and a missed 3rd gear shift trying to hurry to make up time would give him all he needs to win.

I have some cocky *** guy in his AMG SL55 Benz that wants to race me. Let me give you some history on this guy....
A couple of weeks ago I went to my uncle's house to wish him a happy birthday. I pull up to his house and all of his gambling buddies are over and the drive way is filled with $100k+ cars. After I go inside and talk to my uncle for a while, I go out to see this guy eyeing my car. He immediately starts talking **** and calls me out to race. I kindly declined since he was drunk and it had just recently stopped raining earlier in the evening. Well it turns out that he went back inside and started talking **** to my uncle and saying I'm slow and all this bs. My uncle has been in my car and has driven this clown's car before. He thinks it would be a good race and he has a gut feeling that I can beat him since I know how to drive. Since my uncle has a "lil" gambling problem is is fixing to bet $5,000 on the race. The race will take place at the track and for added piece of mind he'll give me a good amount of C16 race gas.
My questions is this. What do you think would be the turn out? Who would win and by how much? I think I can take him, since I dynoed at 375 to the rear wheels (in 3rd gear and only reved to 6800rpm) and my car weighed in at 27XX lbs, last time I took it to the track. Here' are the specs on his car.

Curb Weight: 4235 lbs.
5.4L supercharged V8 rated at 493 hp and 516 ft/lbs of torque

It looks like I have about a 1400+ lb advantage and maybe like 50 less hp to the motor. What do you guys think?
Is he Jesus by any chance?

If I we you I would find someone else with the same car and offer him a couple of bucks to do dry run. Its better than finding out the hard way and loosing the 5k.

BTW, it's not my money like I said. Lets just say, that the $5k is about what he bets in a couple of hands when he goes to Atlantis and plays

If you really want to get his ***, get your uncle to blow 600 on you for some like 100 shot of nitrous. Hell itll more than make up for itself if hes betting 5 grand. You would deffinatly smoke the guy no questions asked then. lol

I sure hope you're joking. I was thinking more of a 150 dry shot is what my car needs

well, Cd is a factor in drag, but alone it doesn't mean that much, since it needs to be multiplied against the frontal area of the vehicle. so if they both have the same Cd, and the FD has a smaller frontal area, it will make less drag. not that i have numbers on the frontal areas of the cars.

coefficient of drag doesn't mean it has downforce - its the exact opposite - at those speeds the differential in air pressures from the top and bottom due to different speeds of air above and below the car will flip the car over IF it doesnt have sufficient aerodynamics..i know you were being sarcastic about racing past 155 but dont get it confused..

YELLOW R1... ERR,,,,NO.... I guess you never driven an SL55. IF he races with the traction control on thats not an advantage cause the car is SLOW as **** with it on.. traction control cuts power greatly. IF you knew how to drive the car you could get a much better launch with TC off rather then on since it will cut power.. You really have to know your car cause it will go up in smoke easily. the car is a pig with it off..
I would agree with you if it were a race traction control or something but its not.

I was just referring to the limit imposed on MBs linup though I don't know if that particular model is limited.

I'm sure that the SL is pretty stable at those speeds. I know the 7 is. I was just pointing out one aspect when I brought up the Cd info. I'll try to dig up downforce info on both unless someone already has that.

The guy is out of town for business. The race will probably take place in the next couple of months or so since he's busy with his schedule as am I.
