lol this thread is awesome! here's my take... if it was an STi, it wasn't actually racing the Miata and the original poster. no offense, but an STi will smoke a stock-engined Miata. even with the extra weight. however, STi's aren't the big **** people rave about. they lose about 65 hp before that power gets to the wheels. most people that own them can't drive them to get the results magazines publish. my best time ever in my STi is a 13.7s 1/4 mile... granted, it was my second time ever drag racing and i had all-season tires (awd didn't save me worth a damn with how much those tires gave). i could've easily taken a few more tenths off that time with good tires.

there are plenty of STi guys refuse to admit defeat, or even admit if another car has a chance against them. but a lot of us are real enthusiasts and we can appreciate any car that is worth the effort of driving. Miata's are the **** for auto-x because of their weight and balance.

not to thread jack, but you want a good kill story to shut up an ego? i was at an auto-x in Boise a few months ago... one of the fastest cars there was a beat-up 3-cylender Geo. no ****. the guy custom fab'd a turbo kit for it, hollowed it out, slapped on some stickies, and tore the anus out of 98% of the cars there. car was ugly as hell, but goddamn that thing could move.

just thought i'd share. this thread was getting so good i just had to be a part of it!
