Well at my work place there is a guy with a brand new EVO MR prior to his vehicle he had an STI but im guessing he traded that in for the MR. Well finally i had a chance to run him on the freeway when i was just bout to head home. His car looks basically stock just with tinted windows. Well I get on the freeway and low and behold he is 2 cars infront of me trying to get on the freeway. Once we get around 60ish i see him floor it so I foillowed pursuit and started my lineup. We go from a 75 roll and smash it in 3rd gear and we never pulled on each other. BTW this was up to 105. Afterwards we go from 90 roll this time I go all the way to redline and by the time i shifted to 5th gear my damn clutch went to the Floor DOH!!!....Well once that happen I look behind me and see he is about 2 cars behind me. I pull over and found that my clutch slave clyinder bolts came out so I fixed that and went on home proud as can be hehe. I always thought an EVO MR would take me but I guess not in this case.. Mods to follow in SIG. IM still running stock boost level without Ported WG on S4 Turbo.(Yah yah I know I boost creep) Car is tuned to 11.5AFR on stock fuel system.

 

Thats awsome, theres a kid in my town who has a MR and he runs his mouth that his car is better than mine. Really kind of stupid, hes so full of him self. Nice kill, good to hear.

I'm impressed. Especially since you've just got basic mods (aside from the 3mm seals and rotors, which wouldn't really do much performance-wise on your relatively stock setup)

By an FD, you mean a modded FD, right? Because a stock EVO would take a crap on a stock FD. Maybe your friend just can't drive?

 

In the quarter-mile an Evo would take an FD.

On the freeway though? It'd be a close race with the FD perhaps coming out on top... The drive-line loss of the EVO, the gearing of the FD and it's aerodynamic superiority would all tip the scales in favor of the Rx7.

I don't think you can *really* say that "a stock EVO would take a crap on a stock FD" if you look at it this way.

 

There is a top gear video with the EVO MR...they said it couldn't spool the turbo at higher speeds or being in higher gears...it was CRAZY LAGGY...

i would bet any amount of money Stock FD vs Stock EVO from a roll! yes quarter mile times are in favor of the EVO but its all in the 0-60 foot speed. after 2nd gear its all FD! and on the street its different then a track test. would you launch a EVO at 6grand at a stop light? no. think about all the factors befor making a statement. but still none the less this is still a good kill.

 

Do you really think that EVO owners baby their car when racing from a stop light against formidable cars?

Racing an AWD is all about the launch. In most cases, if the AWD doesn't take the lead..he never will.

 

(Comitatus) you sure that was the Mr like the one we have here or the FQ-400 becuase the 2 cars have different power the 400 they show on top gear has 400hp factory it's a special one but anyways nice kill bro.

The one tested on Top Gear was an EVO MR FQ400, so it wasn't the one we get here in the states.

 

I have an evo MR and on the freeway it feels so slow compared to my fd, Im not suprised at all that you beat it, evos have way to much hype, and on the freeway they dont stand a chance to rwd cars, my buddy has a 400hp MkIV Supra and it raped me in the evo, it took off like I was standing still.

 

AWD is all about launch and traction. Highway racing doesn't suit it very well. Unless of course, it's in the rain, but then you'd be stupid to race at 75-90 mph in the rain.

 

You are one lucky dude to have an FD and an Evo....... someday......

-I was in my friends vette with "claimed" 325hp, and we raced an evo from about 25-80 and it raped the vette every single time. But, uh do all AWD cars lose power on top end like the Evo because i've heard that the skyline doesn't have much top end "stock" either.

 

well it dosent matter if the MR is fast on the freeway or not becuase that car was made for turns.
