84 gslse vs 2002 wrx impreza
my friends dad just bought him a 2002 wrx and he thinks hes bad *** now. we are both high schoolers. my car is completely stock except i have 3" strait pipes to a flowmaster xl muffler - no cats. When we raced i dropped the clutch from 8500k with the buzzer ringing and floored it burning both tires till it hit traction and i shifted into 2nd. I was shifting at 8000-8500rpm and 1 car ahead until we hit about 80 - 90 mph then his $14000 2002 turbo wrx his dad bought him started pulling 2 car lenghts ahead of my $1200 1984 rx7. Anyway my piece of **** car put up a good fight against the almighty wrx. but at least it wasnt the 300 hp sti cause then i would have been raped... not really a kill but a good fight

you need to launch at WAAAAYYYYYYY lower rpm's, how long have you been driving now??? you're not gonna keep a clutch very long driving like that. try it at about 45-5000rpm's, and instead of dumping the clutch, slip it, and don't stomp the gas but push down as it hooks up.

If always wondered which way is better, to slip the cluth or just dump it. Ive always dumped the clutch, but does slipping work better? Obviously with slicks its a diff story but wtih good tires and 300whp, what give better foot times.
also, slipping would prob wear out ur clutch faster huh.

I don't believe the story. The kid in the WRX must have been not trying, or can't drive.
AWD turbo vs. GSL-SE? I know the FB with the 13B in it is quick, but I don't think it is that quick....
AWD should have taken off very fast and stayed noticeable amounts ahead.
Or maybe he has a super GSL-SE. Dunno. Sounds like some good ole spirited driving though.

he wasnt shifting at redline and he started out in at 1500 rpm. when he finally figured out to shift at 6500 he started doing that 100 percent of the time, everywhere he drives. a week later his turbo blew out this bolt thing and now oil poors out oil or coolant or something

Oh, and pull off that 3" exhaust and flowmasters, put on a 2.5" exhaust with two borla XR-1's in it. Then you actually can GAIN power.

My guess is the WRX kid can't drive. Stock WRX driven well should beat a near stock FB in a drag. I raced a mild modded (just intake exhaust from what I was told) one in my stock FD and it kept with me until halfway through 2nd gear. This one was well driven and launched well.
So my guess is neither of them knew how to launch, and the WRX had a inexperienced driver.

stock wrx puts down like 173awhp, stock STi about 235awhp. not to mention it weights about 3200lbs without driver. but from launch it could have taken the FB at stock form.
also +1 for kid who cant drive a WRX.
