360 rwhp rx7 vs 400 awhp EVO

was at the local car meet this sunday when a a guy asked me to race his evo. have to say i thought i was gonna kill this guy but it ended up being very very close. i was just pulling ever so slightly. we went from 40 -115mphish. i think if we stayed into 4th for longer i would have walked him at those speeds. it was damn close though. closer than the race i had with a 390 rwhp z06 which makes me think the evo probably made alittle more than 400awhp.. anyone know how much these cars weigh?

i was hoping the evo driver would post here so i can find out more abotu his car. like if he had upgraded turbo. he mentioned somethign abotu that but i dont recall what he said. i know he had more fuel, cam, exhaust, intake, exhaust, ecu....etc. my car has all the boltons with stock twins and stock motor.

matty.. I raced a guy who was making 421 awhp on the evo stock turbos. Pretty much maxed out w/ stockers like our cars are. He was running 22-23 psi. We went from from 40 to 140 and I steadily left him and won by 4 cars. I did not brake boost. ( I usually dont anyway.) I think that guy was making a bit more and drove well. I think my ported motor was a factor as well. Good run. G

yeahn this was damn close....no 4 cars. more like one car. i think if we went into higher mph it would have been more. fourth was when my rate of walkinging seemed to be getter better.

sundays 5:00 @ Heav'nly donuts on rte 34. best meet around. hands down. that is if u like looking at thigns other than riced out pieces of ****. this is an auto enthuasists meet. not a bunch of crooked hat wearing clowns meeting in a parkign lot talking **** about how pretty their cars are and doing donuts. the age group is significantly higher and the cars are real deal.

actualyl 5:00 is a bit early....but its good to show up at that time if u want a good spot. i will be there this sunday. wanna chat with this evo driver a bit. i really recommend others to check this out. its worth the driver. i wont go to any other meet but thsi one.

if u are coming from new milford area u could take rte 34 the whole way down. thats a sick ride near the housatonic river. some curvey roads and nice views. i do that road all the time. its alot of fun.

Good kill. However, it would have been a little different from a dig. That AWD is a bitch off the line. I'd be willing to bet that he jumps 3 - 4 lengths on you if you get a good launch. I've witnessed it several times over. It's damn hard to catch up after that.

^^ i was about to bring that up. Taking that car from a dig would have been quite a different result.

Me too. People can't just get together and chill. They always have to try to be all thugged out and do donuts, which immediately brings heat. WTF.
The only guys that seem to be able to get together and be civilized are the Vette guys...probably because the bulk of them are a little older i'm guessing.

im surprised the guy didnt detonate his engine, the evo's suck.. lol.. but what u expect, mitsubishi still cant build an engine worth a crap. thats why they used the same engine in the evo's as they did the GS-T eclipse.. lol.. wouldnt surprise me, i think u would've decimated the guy if u guys would've kept going.. but, a 93' beating a 00+ model.. SUPER IMPRESSIVE.. thats why RX-7 own?? and we all own one.. correct?? =) wish u would've gotten it on tape.

Nice job. I'm guessing it would've gone the other way from a dig, but it's a pretty nice race since the power advantage gets negated by weight. Definitely brings it more to a drivers race.

wow, just wow.

Holding 500 AWHP on stock internals is really lame. If you're not aware, the 4G63T has been used by mitsu since 1988 and has changed SIGNIFICANTLY over the years.

The year the car was originally built has absolutely nothing to do with this. What does have a lot to do with this is a nice light car that appears to be very nicely built.

The engines aren't the bad things in mitsubishis, it's the transmissions.

They blow goat *****.

Funny funny guy? Let's see 668whp on a stock block, 9 second street EVO's, yep sounds like a POS to me.

Know if you said the drivetrain I might agree a little it can't be made reliable just like a rotary no matter what you do it still might take a crap.

As far as a 400whp EVO on the stock turbo pushing 22-23psi...nope ain't gonna happen. Instead of stupid street racing why not just look at the facts.

Stock turboed EVO's have gone 11.50's@120mph and just about anybody can trap in the 115mph-116mph range on the stock turbo with full bolt ons. The FD is a great platform, so is the supra, nsx, and EVO too.

See ya good luck.

I am not a Mitsu guy or know much about the Mitsu engines, but I just wanted ti chime in that the local 4G63T guys blow **** up all the time. But what they blow up is usually their turbo (aftermarket), intercoolers (aftermarket), and drivetrains (mostly losing the driveshaft on the AWD models). There have been a few Evo guys I have talked to that seem to have clutch issues as the most common problem... Most of the 4G63T guys I have talked to have Eclipses/Talons. Strong engines and seem to be good platforms to build off of. The Evo engines seem to have a better response to modifications than the earlier model 4G63T in the Eclipses...

And forged internals...twin scroll turbos...and I'd like to see anyone else for that matter make a drivetrain that hold up to morons sense high rpm drops repeatedly. It's the game with AWD...Evo is a great car...I just happen to have preferance to my 7.
