Before I got into rotaries I had a 1990 GSX. I live at 4500 feet and we went 13.4 with just a fuel pump and race gas. Removed the exhaust after the cat, and removed the vacuum line from the wastegate. Then we went 13.1 with full 3 inch exhaust, fuel pump and AFC. All with the stock turbo and clutch. Cars at sea level will go 12's with the same mods. DSM's are awesome cars.

 

yes, i know dsm's are fast, my bro has a 1992 eagle talon tsi awd but it is not on the same league as my friends talon, my friends talon is almost stock, my bro is an 11 second car probably 10's( ill know after he go back to the speedway again), he has microtech, upgraded turbo, 3'' exhaust,fmic and a handfull of other mods, i know tha i can't beat my bro but i think and i know that i will beat my friends dsm. i respect dsm's nonetheless that's for sure, those engines with little money are incredibly fast.

 

dont ever underestimate a dsm!! i had a 90 talon awd ran 15 sec in the 1/4 mile stock. got a boost controller intake and exhaust and ran a 13.6 for 500.00 bucks. these motors can handle a lot of power. if your friends is an awd, and he knows how to launch the car properly, ure in trouble. it took me a long time to figure it out and when i did my 60ft time was 1.6 on 17 in all seasons. these cars arent made for finesse but brute straight line speed, unlike the 7's which are more of a classy, sleek, handling sports car. i belive the awd dsm's are the ultimate light to light street cars! i modded mine a little more and had no problems taking out vettes, vipers and any muscle cars out there. so be weary if your friend knows how to drive . ive got an fd now and i just love to just cruise in it. its modded with a single turbo kit,but i still wouldnt challenge a highly modded dsm unless its on a highway, as the awd slows the car down at high speeds.

I was just pointing out a fact, that they can be fast cars with little modification.

 

with the mods he has right now i don't think ill be in much trouble, even if he launched good i think hes car will be a 14sec car and if i manage to take230- 240whp on stock turbo or upgrade the turbo and manage to get at least 260whp i think he doesn't have to look anywhere because even on the track ill kill him for sure. a 260whp fc is good for low 13's or even better. the only way for him to get high 12's or low 13's is if he turn up the boost and i don't think he will, also that turbo from 1st gen dsm's are crappy, if i were him i would upgrade to a 16g. the only modification that i think will give him a couple of hp more is the exhaust and intercoler nothing else.

 

Yeah a 1G DSM has a larger turbo then the 2Gs, 14b, and are capable of 12s.


Speaking from experience in racing Rx7s in my 2g, I'd be careful.

 

you are lucky he is retarded and only running 10 psi. he could turn it up to 18 and be fine, and you would stand very little chance of beating him if he knows how to launch it.


on 10 psi who cares. with a 3 inch exhaust and fmic i could take his car, crank the boost, and be well, well into 13's assuming it all runs right.
