'04 Viper vs. Me
Ok, the 7's broke and I don't have enough money to even think about running a Viper in it.
BUT....I'm borrowing a friend's 392 CI 94 Mustang "V6". FI, Cobra brakes, Torq Thrust wheels.
Anyways, on to the kill:
I was just cruising the highway at around 70 when I a brand new Viper rolls up next to me and hits the brakes. He looks over and I hear him downshift and he starts "rocking" back and forth enticing me. Now this Mustang I'm driving is very loud, so I don't know if he thought he was just going to spank a POS Mustang with exhaust or what so I said "hell with it". Now, I'm thinking this is gonna be cool....I'm going to get annihilated by a Viper. I shift down to 3rd at around 3500 RPM (stock rear gear ratio). I crush the throttle about the same time he does and do nothing but walk him. I'm thinking "holy ****.....he was not even trying". I shut down at around 130 mph and let him catch up. He wants another round. I said ok, now it's time to get spanked. Again, both in 3rd and we stomp the loud pedal. The 392 screams to life and I walk him again to around 130 and shut down. The fuel pump on the 'stang is kinda weak and it starts to lean out at the top of 4th. Now I'm just cruising at 65, and he does the "ricer fly-by" and doesn't look back. All I can do is laugh my *** off that I just whomped a Viper....TWICE.... I couldn't believe it. I called the owner of the car and he was like "Lyin ***". It took a little convincing, but he's tried it since on an '02 Viper RT/10 and now believes me. Wish my FB could do that.
I beat him by around 5 cars.
Just FYI, the 392 is a 351 Windsor stroker motor.
Cool or what? Wish I had a camera at the time....woulda been classic.

More bullshit kill threads. No wonder I stopped reading the Kills section.
To pull 5 cars from 70-130 on a car that traps over 120mph in the 1/4 would require you to trap, what, in the high 120s at least? That requires over 500 rwhp in a car like a Mustang.....
Are you trying to tell us you're making over 500 rwhp off a stroked n/a Windsor?

Hope not! Last I checked any car can if u want it to, and mustang guys happen to turn up the power on their cars more than you would think. Greatest car in the world??? NO. Incapable of the power?? bigger NO. Alot of viper guys can't put the power to the ground either.

Of course Mustangs can have 500 rwhp, just not with a stroked n/a Windsor...
Furthermore, I think my estimate of 500 rwhp needed may be on the low side...

Call it bs, but it's true. If the motor's built right, it can do it. Tell me that a NASCAR 358 can't make 700+ hp and I'll call you a liar. And we're not talking 1/4 mile bullshit either. Who cares about 1/4 mile from a 70 mph roll. It may have not been 5 cars, maybe 3 but he was clearly in the rearview getting spanked. Cripes, i've got $7700 in the damn motor. I hope for that I can make well over 500 hp at the crank.
And yes, FI = Fuel Injection, not Forced Induction. It is a 351 W stroked and bored to 392 CI. Eagle rods, short skirt pistons, Edelbrock Performer Intake (the one that's not made anymore) Edelbrock performer RPM heads, one very nasty Comps Cams bumpstick, 70mm TB, 70mm CUSTOM MAF, Ford EEC-IV ECU reprogrammed.

Sounds possible, why not? I don't know much about stangs except they are slow as hell stock. It was probably 3 cars but the fact of beating such an expensive and powerful car pretty bad made him excited and he exaggerated. If we want people to beleive that we whip 500 hp cars with our big turbo RX7s (WHICH IT REALLY TRUE BTW, EVEN I DO IT AND I'M A BABY ON THIS FORUM), why can't a built stang???
Trending Topics
Not saying I don't beleive it but it is hard to beleive that you walked a car that does better from high rolls that has 450 to the wheels and awesome aerodynamics, in a muscle car with brick aerodynamics with say 420-430 to the wheels that runs horrible from higher rolls. Just wierd. I say Viper guy couldn't drive.

You apparently don't understand hp and aero drag. The Viper makes 500 bhp. To pull several cars in a heavier car with poorer aero from 70 to 120 would require you to be making well OVER 550 bhp.

Maybe it did happen like you said it happened, after all their are moron drivers out there. But if you think you are pulling 125+ trap speeds with that motor in that car, you are seriously deluded. Post a legit dyno sheet and prove me wrong.
Rynberg you should stick to rotaries, since you dont seem to know much about stroker motors. Besides what you read on the google search sites, anyways. You can make well over 500 bhp N/A off a stroker, all it takes is $$ . Especially a 392 with the right parts combination and a big enough cam. My coworkers 388 in a 3200lb monte carlo went 9.70s on spray, and low 10s on motor. Street car. So whats so hard to believe that the guy didnt pull a viper, its not like jesus christ himself hand crafted every viper to be made unstoppable. He never said his motor was built like a nascar motor, he was giving an example of a high hp N/A motor. Next time dont put words in the guys mouth. I havent seen any new vipers trapping 120+ at the track, maybe they have the special 2008 model where you live?

I may not know piston engines that well but I know enough that something was suspect in the Viper race. Even making 530 bhp, you aren't going to be pulling 3+ cars on a Viper from 70-120 given decent driving. Like I said above, maybe this story did happen, but only because the Viper couldn't drive or had some other issue.
Also, maybe you should go to a drag strip where people know how to drive or it's not 100F with 90% humidity, because the current gen Vipers trap 120+.

LOL. This **** cracks me up. Everyone's so obsessed with how "awesome" the Viper is. Well, it's just a status symbol. It's an $70,000 status symbol. I don't have funds to dyno the car. I have doubts the guy was trying. But I DID race a Viper and I did win. Whether he tried or not I don't care. I beat him and that's that.
And FYI, a 383 stroker motor (Chevy) will make 500hp easily with the proper combination. And the '94 Mustangs aren't such a brick going through the air. They do have decent areodynamics.
Why do you think it's so hard to run a 12-second 1/4 mile in a mustang? Cripes a Fox body will do that with slicks, heads, cam, and intake, and some bigger injectors. Get your diluded head out of your stuck up FD ***. The Viper isn't the ultimate car. It's a turd compared to an '02 Z06. Yes it's .2 faster in the 1/4 mile but will it win in any other race? Hardly.

Nobody said the Viper was godly, but it is a tough oppenent from a roll. I personally would never buy one unless it was a Heffner TT but still the driver probably sucked.

Mustangs have about the same drag as a Viper, I believe. So pretty even there. They do not have good aero as far as lift goes though.

I never said the Viper was the ultimate car. Far from it. I wouldn't exactly call it a turd compared to a Z06, despite the weight penalty, it still does have 100 more hp and tq. Handling on a road course is fairly even with good drivers, with the slight nod probably going to the Z06. What does this have to do with racing a Mustang from a freeway roll?
I understand the doubt and I don't know if the guy driving the Viper was getting all he could out of the car or not...the mustang may just be fast... But I know Brian personally and he isn't a BS'er. If he said he beat the car he did. Good kill Brian.
