*now* I get the point of sports pedals...

Recently I realized why sports pedals can actually be useful...

I realized that heel-and-toe is easiest when my foot is to the far right side of the brake pedal. Thus, if the gas pedal was maybe 1/2 and inch wider, it would be MUCH easier to do H&T, and still have your foot all the way on the brake pedal... and thus, you wouldn't have to move your foot as much, making it easier to do it while going fast, and during full braking...

So now, to find a way to make it wider...hmm...

Never had a problem - of course I have size 13-1/2 feet. ;-)

I actually had to remove the throttle pedal extension the previous owner had put on my FC track car - there was just too much overlap and I couldn't easily differentiate the brake pedal.

Well I removed my rubber pedal covers so they're a bit smaller (not to mention less squishy) than normal (I have skateboard grip tape on them). This isn't for overlap, it's just so I can push off the edge of the gas pedal more easily.

I can do heel and toe just fine... but when it's harder when I'm not braking hard, when I'm going slow, or when I'm going fast(er than one should probably go around corners on the street).

I just found a rubber pedal cover on the ground. I put it around the gass pedal (my little plastic pedal part fell off).

The pedal cover widened the pedal and lengthened it the perfect amount. I can now heal toe shift pretty easily.

Try and find a rubber pedal cover. lol

I made a new gas pedal cover out of sheet metal (kind of thick stuff) from the hardware store... I don't suggest trying to make one yourself unless you have a band saw that cuts metal and a good grinder...

But either way, it looks cool, it's the same shape as stock, except a little bit less than 1/2 and inch wider... 1/2 an inch is too wide (I made a prototype with hand tools... it was ugly and it was too easy to hit the gas when you're on the brake). What I have right now is almost too wide, but it does make heel-and-toe much easier at medium speeds and lower gears... I need to paint it again...

with the stock pedals (on an FC) i have an easier time with a heel toe being barefoot. i use my toes to control the gas as its easier for me to be more precise that way. skate shoes are too wide and take away a lot of the feel of the pedal.

Also never had a problem, size 14 converse all stars cover a lot of floor

I always drive barefoot or with these shoes, as they're very thin.

barefoot

Yeah I realized the thing about the pedals some time ago. As far as the stock pedals I was able to heel toe comfortably after I got some Sparco driving shoes. With regular shoes and boots I normally side-step rev match. I stopped doing it when my foot got stuck between the pedals once, that was fun

Strange thing is, I can NEVER drive comfortably barefoot. Vans or any other flexible, thin shoe works best for me.

Also the stock pedals with SS brake lines and a properly adjusted throttle cable / pedal even out rather well. Mine sit right next to each other when the brakes are engaged.
