What is a good class to race a na s5 rx7 in scca/icscc modest budget?
I have a '91 rx7, im thinking about turning it into a track car. starting out doing solo, than racing. it does not have lsd, open-differential, single piston brakes, just the base model. wondering what classes there are to choose from? and what are the different things you can do or not do in them.

If you're talking about road racing, SCCA classes the car in ITS.
NASA will class it in PT. Maybe PTD depending on mods. See their website for details on points and mods for classing.
It can be an expensive car to build. If you aren't planning on driving it on the street, look into a race car that is already built. Or leave the car streetable enough that you can resell it to someone that can legally title and register it.

NASA i think puts an FC in PTD (there is a sliding scale of hp/wt, and depending on mods you can move the car around). since Time Trials (TT) shares the PT ruleset you're also in TTD. as you build the car it'll move up in classes.
an SCCA ITS car i think its PTB

It looks like you are in Conference. SCCA is kinda behind the curve and there is no NASA to speak of. ICSCC is where its at and they are very open and understanding. I would go on their website, join the forums and ask around.
Out in the great Northwet (LOL), there used to be a bunch of second Gen's running and they tend to be very quick. The tracks that are out there tend to be big, fast with lots of wide open corners and decent run off. Just great tracks for an FC. You are also getting a new track for 2012 in "The Ridge".
I ran my FC at Mosport for the first few years with an open diff, single piston brakes and cut springs with a stock S5 motor. I put all my money into suspension and lightening the car and getting track time. It worked out great and I ended up winning a number of races in my class.
I just added bits as my financial situation improved or as the pieces came along. People freak out when they see how fast I am going with the stock single piston brakes and though I have added a posi as it gained me about a second, I still have maintained the philosophy of only adding parts when necessary.
Just contact the guys in Conference to find out what their class for the car would be, join the club and get out and have fun. I may see you when I travel out there and go racing with my buddies out of Vancouver.
