WE Want a Mazda WEC Hypercar entry!

I just wrote to Mr. Kirotaka Shobuda at Mazda N.A. today a hand written letter asking that Mazda produce or team up to help produce a World Endurance championship Hypercar entry. It has been too long since Mazda won Le Mans and after seeing the hypercars GTP class running Sebring this year i am hyped about seeing a Mazda entry into the class.
Can you imagine a Mazda competing with the others like Ferrari, Porsche, Cadillac, and BMW? We can dream! and we can ask Mazda management, love to see that 6 rotor winning Le Mans in a Hypercar!
BTW- The Caddy has the best sounding motor ever!-the sound of pure torque and scrampower from that naturally aspirated car is unforgettable!

Best Regards to all,
Beastieboy

if you're writing letters, i think Mazda should make some more 787's, they would sell
i'm thinking 77 of them?

I hit Sebring every year. The mazda DPI was underpowered IMO running a 4 cylinder trying to play the fuel game. They keep pace but were no match for the likes of the Caddy teams and most others. Those Whelan and the Mustang engineering caddies are the boys to beat.

I would love to see Mazda get off their formula of running smaller engines and hoping for a win in the fuel category. Afterall, they only became hugely successful running a 4 rotor. They could probably run a 3 rotor hybrid and be very competitive! I would also like to see Nissan get back in the game.

did you see their front wheel drive DPI car a few years back?

The DPi car got competitive in the last couple of years, maybe that was due to BOP, but it did get them a win at Sebring and Watkins Glen.
From what I understand the DPi budget was quite costly and calibrating an electric motor to work with it would have been more expensive so they quit.

Hopefully they can do something interesting with their new 6 cylinder.

ah 2020...one of the years I did not go!

isn't BOP what doomed the rotaries? DAMN THEM!
a 6 cylinder protype?

I would love to see them do that, as I do not see rotaries coming back anytime soon. They need to develop a twin turbo V6 comparable to Nissan,

love the porshe and toyota hypercars. doesn't seem fair to let a caddy run that big v8, but damn it sounds good. the best sound was the 787 followed by the Caddy and who can forget the Audi R10 TDI!

it will mostly depend on the rules allowances, which are likely written to prevent a rotary engine from being competitive if even allowed to enter.

When was the last time Mazda competed internationally? Has it really been since 1992 with the MXR-01? Maybe WRC with the 323 GTX?
I know about the Kudzu and WR cars at Le Mans, but were those factory backed?
Though "international" is in the name, IMSA is a North American sanctioning body.

Rotary engines were banned again in 2014, but the WEC Hypercar rules released in 2019 allow rotaries back.
Max power with the hybrid electric system is limited to 671hp which is definitely doable with even the old 4 rotor tech.
It'd be neat to have the electric motor give it the boost coming out of corners.
