VIR RX7 Swarm Warning on July 4th and 5th
Tracqest is having an HPDE event at VIR July 4th and 5th. I can't think of a better track event during which we should have an rx7 meet.
Tracquest is very relaxed but organized enough to keep traffic flow at a minimum. It's expensive but you will get double the track time and the quality of the track time is what's really important.
IMO most on track incidents accur because of traffic. The faster people worry the slower people and when the faster people have room they are over eager to drive at speed. This causes problems for both. At the tracquest events the slower people have space and faster people get adequate room to find a good pace and rhythym so everyone is happy and IMO safer
It really annoys me when event coordinators treat the students like kids with this over the top intensity that just makes an already tense and nervous situation worse. These guys are very relaxed and cool
I plan on going so atleast 1 FD will be buzzing around

If you really want a swarm of RX-7s, there is a Mazda Driver's event later in june, on the new VIR Grand East course (4.2 miles!)
Register soon, it's gonna fill up fast.

I'd love to do it... but will have just been there for the mazda event, and VIR is a bit of a hump for me. I've resolved to avail myself of the numerous FATT dates at summit this year since its so close... i did one day on the big track last year, and was left wondering why it hadn't happened sooner!
I'll certainly try to make in July tho

Poor excuse Peter :-) I will be at the late June VIR event as well and I'm seriously considering the July event--especially if I get a ride in the Killer Bee from Fritz. THe interesting part is that I'm traveling from NJ which is a lot farther than Reston, VA.

Last time I saw the killer bee, it had a nice rollcage member going through the space where the passenger seat is supposed to be...
Rumors floating around that the bar will be cut. I call shot gun.

Interesting site. I am concerned about them allowing convertibles to run with no roll-over protection for the slow group. Also the stock bars that don't meet helmet clearance standards (think BMW-Z3) can run in the fast groups. They seem to be playing a little loose with the safety standards (they used to not require *any* roll-over protection in *any* run group). It makes me worry about their concern for the safety of their participants.
I have watched a Miata flip and roll 3 times in turn 4 at VIR. This was during MADS a few years ago. The car was running in the "slow" group. The only reason that the student and instructor walked away from that scene was that MADS *required* full roll bars on all convertibles.

I think VIR has thier own safety requirements that the folks renting the track must comply with and it's my understanding that most convertibles must have a roll bar.
I was at that event when the miata rolled and it definitely a scary site. I was eating a BBQ and watched it all unfold right in front of me.
Thanks for the concern and always remember safety 1st
