sunroof rules

anyone know if making a fiberglass sunroof instead of using the stock metal one is legal for EP? the only thing it says is that structural rigidity cannot be compromised. I don't see the actual sunroof playing an integral part with the cage in place as well as the mazda reinforcements. Any thoughts anyone?

Ron

I cut all the metal reinforcements off the edge of the sunroof and the roof (significant weight reduction,) and then 'glassed it in place. I run in GT; don't know if it is EP legal.

Im curious about that too. I want to remove the sunroof, altogether, and weld in a cover.

I think your ok with a fiberglass insert. Just make it look as original.

"Component parts of the car's body/structure may be lightend, provided that structual rigidity is appropriate and that the original appearance is maintained .........."
"Alternate materials. The hood and deck lid may be replaced by components of an alternate material, provided their appearance remains as original."

If anybody cares this is the correct answer posted on the scca production forum:

"See 17.25 of the GCR

"All sunroofs may be replaced with panel or replacement skin of the same material as the original surrounding roof material."

In other words - no."

I guess, hood and deck do not = sunroof of alternate material.

But a thin piece of steel would work.

I have seen a couple E-prod. fc's w/ Aluminum panels replacing the Sunroof - but maybe they were illegal?

it depends on how specific they define "material"

the "same material" could be just "metal" instead of the more precise definition - "steel"

or for all I know the FC roof panel is actually aluminum... I dunno.
