Spec 7

Hey, I'm looking into getting into SPEC 7. It looks like the cheapest racing one can do (next to AutoX), and it's wheel to wheel, so that has to be alot of fun. I was looking into the rules, and I did not understand if emision controls could be removed or not. It says you can run no cats, and if that is the case, why would one need e-controls? Could somone clear that up for me?

I am also looking for any other tips, or advice, or anyinformation at all that could help me get started. I plan to slowly prep my Rx-7 up over a couple of years or something. I want to get my feet wet before I jump in lol. I know building a car is more expensive then buying one, but I want to build one. To me it is all part of the experience.

Thanks, Ted.

Spec-7 is a regional class in the US and thus the rules vary from region to region. Often the differences are subtle and pretty much along the lines of your question regarding removal of all emissions.

So check with the tech people for your local region about specifics.

Which group will you be running with?

I'm not really sure actualy. I live up in Canada, there is nothing like Sppec 7 up here, so I plan to go down to the states. I live about 3-4 hours from the border pending on trafic. I am guessing Buffalo..... anywhere in New York is definatly in. I found a link to the MARRSRX7 rule book.... no idea what region that is though lol. So basicly I know jack all about Spec 7....

MARRS is "Mid-Atlantic Road Race Series" and is based more around Virginia and West Virginia (Summit Point, VIR) so that's a little too far south.

Go to www.scca.com and near the top of the page there is a button labled "Find a Region Near You". Click on the button to find the nearers SCCA region and contact them directly.

Texas is a lot farther than Mid-Atlantic.

It doesn't look like NESCCA has a Spec7 class of any kind, but you might try contacting somebody within the division and asking. http://www.users.fast.net/~nescca/

There's some organization up in Canada that runs something like Spec 7 or IT7.

GO over to www.improvedtouring.com and ask there. I know there are a couple of guys who run 7's north of the border.

I was looking at the Canadian stuff, and all of it has "unlimited" suspension mods allowed. I don't want to dump a crap load of cash into having a crazy suspension setup lol. If I had that sort of money I would get into rally racing lol. I am confused though, because teh car's seem to be classed by their times around tracks. If that is the case, then I could run my RB setup, and just be in a slower class? I am a little confused lol.
