SCCA Infinion Race Report and Video

First ITE race last weekend went well.......Qualified 5th with a 1:47.22.

Here's a link to the Video. http://www.vimeo.com/3982644 Again, not the greatest video. Recommend watching in small screen. Also still shakey..........

Disregard the lousy start, loosing 4 spots, the missed shifts, and the porsche closing the door on me in the modified turn 11.

Finished 5th.

Thanks to Gracer7-rx7 for his help at the track. Next event should be Laguna in 3 weeks or so.

Cheers

Yeah, that Porsche wasn't checking his mirrors.
Nice pass on the inside of 10...ballsy. That corner can be very unforgiving.
Why the hell were they running the IRL/AMA turn 11? That sucks.

Great driving, you seemed to be down on power on the straights compared to the some of the other cars but you were real quick in corners and under braking (which i think are the two places I'd rather be quicker, as you know anyone can make power)

The IRL turn 11 was due to the failure of the k-wall and fencing in the real turn 11 after a GT2 panoz went straight in at over 100mph. (Complete brake failure) The Hans wearing driver walked away............another plug for a HANS device.

Down on power is an understatement compared to the other cars. All 4 of the cars in front of me were pushing and some were over 500hp. I figure I was 360-380hp this weekend, but as I listened to the video it also sounds like I have a boost leak so who knows. But your right, the car is handling very well, and the brakes pull it down well to.

Interestingly enough, my qual time this year would have put me on the pole LAST year. ......The price of poker has gone up significantly in this class.

You are welcome but I'm not sure if I actually helped any or just distracted you.

What is the yellow light on the gauge hood for?

Watching the in-car video gives a totally different perspective on the race. I was watching from the turn 2-3-4 area. I see what happened at the start now. It was a total blast watching you make your way back up and pass some serious machinery on the way.

You had some awesome passes and some nice clean racing running two wide through some of the corners. I particularly loved your passes in Turn 4 and 5. No one else seemed to have the brakes or handling to be able to pull off a pass there.

As an FD afficionado, it was great to finally watch a very well driven FD kicking *** on track.

I finally see what happened with the P car. Too bad about that. I can't believe the rim took as much damage as it did and you were able to drive it as if it were perfectly round.

Hope to make it to Laguna and spectate some more.

LOL I was thinking to myself 'How does Kibort keep that 928 looking so damn pretty'.. Then BOOM you guys touch in 11 Frankly, I thought your pass there was a little too aggressive, and I think he had the right of way, I couldn't see where you guys touched, but I don't think you owned the corner at turn in, at least from the perspective of the video.

I did laugh at the revenge bump under braking after you made the 10 pass stick Nice pick off the slower traffic, I don't think I've got the ***** to make a pass in 10 like that. Good job gathering the car up after the bump too!

Looking good.

That porsche and you went at it for a while.... I think you had the turn personally. It looked like he hit you with the nose of his car... and I am guessing somewhere behind your front fender on your car.

The only reason a few of those cars were in front of you for any length of time is because of their straight line power advantage. Nothing more.

I think I'm with silkworm on the opinion of not owning the corner, but it's honestly hard to tell from only one camera angle. Either way it was great driving over all!

And yes, Jack Mardikian's Supra battle is sick... I still watch it from time to time.

Thanks for the comments gents.........

Gracer7 - The guage hood light is a full throttle light. It's surprising to me how many times I think I am all in it and then watch the video and I am not. Cheap data......

Silkworm - Yep, aggressive pass. It was surprising how many people struggled with the new corner. He broke to early and left a lot of realestate on the inside and obviously didn't check his mirrors or when he did, I wasn't there yet. If he knew I was there he wouldn't have hit me. ........Don't think there was a revenge bump (haven't seen his video) entering 11, I have a bit to much rear end bias on the brakes and came in to deep.

Oh? It kinda looked like a bump. Well then good recovery

That's a good idea with the full throttle light, I like that.

Definitely not a bump. It looked like the Porsche got off the brakes and blew the corner when he noticed that SHIPNOUT was there. There was no paint traded on bumpers. Just the front fender in front of the wheel on the FD from the first incident IIRC.

I have made more aggressive (yet clean) passes while racing karts wheel to wheel. I guess SCCA is different...

Hey Niles,

Bill here. I should have the RX done for Thunderhill. Looks like Laguna is out of the question. Just too busy with work. Should give you a good battle.
