Plexiglass sunroof delete?

I have searched for some options to close the hole in teh roof where the sunroof used to be.

Does anybody know if it is against any safety rules to just cover it with some plexiglass that is riveted to teh roof of the car? Basically it would allow you to feel as though you have a sunroof while covering the hole.

If not, I plan to just cut out of piece of sheetmetal and weld it up.

Thanks In Advance!

If you are going to race the car, as in wheel to wheel with SCCA, NASA or the like, plexiglass won't cut it. Glass sunroof must be removed and replaced with "same material as the original surrounding roof material"

SCCAITS is right, however, it don't need to be fancy. A piece of steel riveted on with some weather sealant will do the trick.
