oil pressure 2 high

Posting on behalf of a friend, 13B RE cosmo engine with everything done for full drag car, semi P. The problem he's having is the oil pressure is way too high, engine cold, first start, idle pressure is about 150psi!!! Once it warms ups it drops to about 60, but when it revs to about 3K's, goes all the way to about 170-180. The mods to the oil system ar the typical for such application, external lubrication, real oil pressure relief valve compressed to increase pressure and a 1/8 inch washer to the front cover valve. have had the valves double checked and replaced the rear oil release valve with a different unit with the same mods, no change. What could be causing this???

dry sump ? normal for dry sump. try a 0-50 synthetic and that will help. if not you have to idle the car till you see some oil temps, which is what i do with my race engine.

Thanks for the reply, it is not a dry sump and the oil that is in there is 20-50. The engine gets to normal temps, however there is no oil temp gauge. After the temps get to operating range, at idle it got to about 60 psi, but when it accelerate to anything over 3k, it goes over 170.

mine is 160 psi at higher revs, thats ok, try the 0-50 otherwise you will need an oil heater. Ive only blown 2 oil coolers when oil was not hot. get an oil temp gauge , a must for rotaries. Ok to rev it after 140 degress
