OEM one piece 3mm apex seals???

Just cruising Yahoo auction website and came across a new set of OEM apex seals, one piece and 3mm

It even showed the Mazda OE part number

ZR 311 C01

Anyone familiar with this? Is this an uprated apex seal from Mazda?

no info on that... it was just a set on sale. I figure, there are more or you can just order them

they went for about 60.000 JPY, which is about 3 times the normal price.

Yes, carbon/aluminum seals

Mazdacomp says

SEAL, APEX

Part No: ZR03-11-C01 The regular price is $64.30
The sale price is $45.90

The Yahoo auction states this was the seal kit from the Mazdaspeed "sports kit" engine.

Don't know if that is correct but "sports kit" 13B was the "over the counter" available to public kit launched in 1978 to make 13B into a dry sumped 13B peripheral port for racing as to homologate peripheral port engines in Grand Championship Series racing.
-------------

Looks the same to me as

SEAL, APEX

Part No: 4801-11-301 The regular price is $63.65
The sale price is $45.45

-------------
special race springs for carbon/aluminum apex seals

APEX SEAL SPRING-13B

Part No : ZR03-11-C04
The regular price is $10.75
The sale price is $7.65 $7.65

my mazdaspeed catalog says sports kit engine, 13G 3 rotor. come to think of it, i wonder what the difference is between the 4801 seals and the zr03, i know the 13G has different rotors and things

could this be an upgrade for a 13B-Rew when going with 3mm rotors?

No, not at all suitable for forced induction applications.

Even naturally aspirated detonation from too much spark advance can cause them to break up. NSU couldn't keep carbon seals together because they insisted on using a centrifugal advance mechanism.
