Nurburgring 2010

http://www.rx7.net.nz/rx7netindex.html

I have been working on an FD for 8 years in my spare time and it has finnaly got a use!
Nurburgring 24HR 2010.
I have been to the ring for the last 3 24hr races with Ric Shaw racing as part of the team.
Ric Shaw in Australia asked to borrow the car and he will put a 20B PP in it.
I shipped the car over (I'm in New Zealand) last week.
There are some pics of it on my web site.

We have entered Class SP5 so i have spent the last few months pulling out my 13B and changing things to suit the SP5 rules

My budget is pretty much blown and it's very hard to attract a sponsor at the moment so we will do it on a shoe string again

We are aiming for a podium in SP5 which i'm sure the car will be capable of.

I'll post stuff here as we get closer to the race and if people are interested.

I just want to see a 20B thrash around the ring!!!

Glen

Some more pics

Here is a picture of the Hollinger 6 speed sequential box.
I got it out of a Japanese GT300 car.
The adapter is interesting, it came with the box, I spoke to Hollinger and they didn't make it.
Hollinger just say they usually join two FD cases together. I like this adapter better.

BTW Hollinger are great to deal with. I needed a new gear indicator light and control box (gearbox came with multipole switch but the control box and light must have gone with the car) and a drive shaft yoke and I received them the next day. I got them before I'd even had time to pay for them!!!

Turns out i don't need the control box as the switch plugs straight into a motec dash.

Winters quick change

I was going to import this myself but freight was too much.
I got it from cardwell racing here in NZ.
Great to deal with. (daughter is a but grumpy) The owner is great.

Its an independant diff with an LSD centre.
I used lightened Empi 934 C.Vs with chromoly cages.
Custom Axles were made by Heat treatments in Auckland
I still have the stock outer C.Vs so when we crash it they will be easy to replace.

chromoly ladder power frame

The gearbox and diff were fitted by Race FX. Chromoly mounts. The diff is fitted to the stock rear subframe and a chromoly ladder power frame connects the diff to the box.
Drive shaft has a yoke at each end so there is a supra? slider spline at the box end.
Custom Drive shaft was made by Driveshaft Specialists Nz Ltd.
Gave him the Hollinger chromoly yoke, a length and the Winters yoke and he had the shaft made ballanced and ready by the end of the week!!!
Excelent!

The Hollinger is not that expensive.
I paid NZ$15K with the adapter and a couple of boxes of spare gears, dogs, input shafts, selectors.
That's about US$10K

A new one is about US$10K + adapter of some kind and bell housing and probably some other bits. I would budget NZ$22K

The new ones have an oil pump built in and i believe wider gears(?) and 8 dogs instead of 5(?)

There are a few "H" pattern Holingers around for sale because the local V8 class now allows sequential. They are a different box and i don't think you can change an H one to a sequential one.
I believe they go for between NZ$ 10 ~ 15K.

I'd like to get a sponsor for the race.
We have the car sorted, getting it there is sorted.
We could do with a top up of funds.
There are 300,000 spectators at the track and it is tevevised live across Europe.

What's the best way to get a sponsor?

I'm looking at hopefully getting some sponsorship as well for my build. My plan is to put together a publicity brief, basically going over where my car will be seen, and by approximately how many people. Events, shows it will be displayed at etc.. its basically a sales brochure for your car, selling how much publicity you can get it.

this sounds like a very fun project. the event sounds like even more fun than the build. the Ring is one of my all-time favorite tracks. i'd love to drive there before i die.

good luck with the project and the event.

We both have the same goal! I am gearing up for 2011 though. My first goal is a 6 hour race in Colombia for 2010. Open up a paypal account for donations, it helps. Goodluck and keep us posted !!

Bit of a long story... The engine package didn't work out as planned and time ran out.
No FD at the ring this year...

Another car is being built for next year.

The good news is i have a 20B PP here in NZ so i will finish it here.
I just need to save up for the Motec.
