I did the Redline Time Attack this weekend.

It was a interesting crowd there this weekend. The place was littered with riced out cars there for the Import Alliance car show that I figured would be outside the speedway in the parking lot... was I sadly mistaken... they were all over the paddock... and the crowd that goes along with the cars. My Viper friend and I were tucked away in the back corner and still had to deal with people being all over our car... which I'm not use to as I'm not there for the car show... I'm there to drive. People leaning on my car and poking around. I had to tell a couple of people to step back and get their hands off my ****(as one guy cracked my headlight cover). Any car show I've ever been to, I've always made it a point to keep a little distance from someone's car. People were also walking in the middle of the road and I know they could hear our cars. We were literally having to fight our way to the grid. A few other things happened that kind of annoyed me, but that's neither here nor there. The Redline people seemed really nice and helpful, I think my frustration was from the Import Alliance side of the house. Still, if that's what I have to deal with, that's not bad.

Aaaannnnnyyyywaaaayys... once I got on the track, it was a great time... all grins. I had 4 good sessions on Saturday that were all a full 30 minutes long that was more than I could handle. The biggest issue we had were trying to make our way to the gas pumps through the crowd. The time attack was a good experience and I'm happy with how I did. I ran a 1:14, the guy that won in my class ran a 1:12, and the 2nd place guy ran a 1:13. I know the car had alot more in it, but the driver was driving at 10/10th's of his ability

Here are the few pictures that I took while I was there:

That's it for now. I'll be doing some brake work this weekend and hitting Road Atlanta for the NASA event the weekend after that(AUG 8-9).

Thanks Fritz. The AWD guys reign supreme at Nashville. Mark Daddio in the AMS Performance EVO X had the fastest time with a 1:01 lap time.

Wow, cool!

I did Road Atlanta w/ Skip Barber back in the day before they added the "FIA" chicane at the end of the straight... you just broke straight from 135 (in the old barber car) and went right over the hill.

Video never does justice to how steep that final hill/corner is either.

No kidding about the hill going into turn 12/the final turn. I shift into fourth right before I crest the top of the hill and it really seems to settle the car for me(and it also gives me a higher corner exit speed as well). After a couple of four wheel drifts doing it in third and getting a little closer than I'm comfortable with to the wall, I was glad with how well fourth settled the car. On a side note, there we're more wrecks than usual this past weekend. I think a lot of it had to do with the heat. Peter, you going to be at the FSR event in sept?

Don't think I'll be at FSR. I'm suffering a bit of an enforced track moratorium while I repair the car and sell/buy a new house. Might be back later in the fall.

Hey, i don't know if your schedule is set in stone, so if it isn't you might want to take a look at an HPDE at Bluegrass Motorsports Park. Its nearing completion this April and looks to be a nice track. Its 30 min south of Cincinnati in the Northern Ky area.

Link to the HPDE LLC: http://www.1010drive.citymax.com/page/page/5236308.htm

Link to track Site: http://www.drivebluegrass.com/

I plan to visit this track at least three times this year, let me know if your interested, i'll sign up and get out there with you.

Going to be at Putnam Park this weekend, anyone else going to be there? I know of a couple of other FD's that are going to be there. It'll be my first time at Putnam Park, should be a fun time.

Had a blast at Putnam Park this weekend. It was my first time there and I will def. be going back there again. For being basically a 2 mile road course, it is one of the most fluid tracks I've ever driven on. I was very impressed all around. It has a ton of runoff in every corner(except turn 9... which still has at least 100ft), abrasive pavement for unreal grip, and some fun stuff all throughout the course. I'd say this is prob. in my top 3 favorite road courses currently. The only thing that I did notice was the track wasn't as wide as some of the other tracks I've ran, but for a track day, it wasn't an issue at all as we never went 3 wide. I ran with 10/10ths Motorsports this weekend and had a ton of track time. They offer the same amount as Chin does, at a cheaper rate, with just as nice of cars. Brace(bbade) and Justin(silent_ninja_08) also came out and had a fun time at the track
I ran in the Yellow group this weekend which was open passing anywhere with a point by. On the second session of the day(or maybe it was the first?), a guy in a white mustang attempted to divebomb past me going into turn 9. I had given him a point by, went as far inside as I could and backed off my normal corner speed so he wouldn't struggle to pass(just like you are suppose to ). Well, I don't think he ever touched the brakes until he had 3 wheels off. It had rained all day the day prior and he went off and wasn't able to slow down much at all before slamming into the wood line/trees. Here is the aftermath:

You need a C6Z or a 996gt3. Then you could sell your old garbage to me :-)...But not yet.

Looks like fun. How long a drive did it end up being?

? If you were going to get a new used track toy what cranks you up? Vette? Exige? Gt3? Viper? other? Panoz - dedicated track car formula car? etc.?

As much track time as you are getting a Formula/spec racer or tube frame purpose built might be nice in terms of maintenance.

I would love to have a C6Z or a 996GT3, I just can't seem to get away from my FD's. Let me know when you are ready, I'm sure I'll still have the car. I have yet to advertise the car we talked about before.

Drive is around 4.5 hours from me. Not too bad.

As far as getting a new used track toy, there is all kinds of cool stuff out there, I still like my FD's. I think the C5Z's are another excellent bang for the buck car right now. The Panoz's are great track cars that are super easy to work on being they are a tube frame type car. The Viper ACR is amazing... so are the normal Vipers. I guess I like them all, but I'm more than happy with my 1.3liter that goes brrrrraaaappp.

Yes it was, it took them about 45 minutes to cut the car enough to get him out.

I will be at VIR this coming weekend with the FSR PCA(Sept. 19-21). 2 days on the south course(will be my first time), and 1 day on the grand east course. Can't beat it for the price. Fritz will be there and I'll be trying to get every bit of knowledge I can from him. It's Monday, but I'm just working for the weekend so I can get my fix

Here a quick video of Fritz coming around Oak Tree and shooting a nice flame:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-A1Z_iyQl4U

I'll be getting pictures and video's up in the next few days. Best event I've done to date! I seriously get more out of 1 day of Fritz riding in my car then I do with 10 days of someone else. He takes the guess work and experimenting out of the equation. I know you other track guys can relate. You know, you get your line down, and then as you progress you figure little things out here and there or better ways of doing things. With Fritz in the car, he is a great driver to begin with... and then he has 10 years experience at VIR and in an FD. Needless to say, I was very happy with how my driving progressed this weekend. I really wasn't to excited about the South Course but it allowed me to run a million laps on the section of VIR I was probably the most weak. I ended up having alot of fun out there. Fritz and I also got to run traqmate's and go pro camera's in our car this event thanks to a fellow rotarhead named Mark Underwood. I look forward to seeing the results. Videos and pictures to folllow in a day or two...
