My Tenative 2009 Track Day Schedule

Here is a tentative schedule of the track days I'm thinking about doing. It all depends on my schedule, but I'm going to try to do as many as possible this year. If you know of anymore in the SE region post them up. Also post up if you are planning on attending any of these events. I'm sure there will be some HPDE and PDX's that are scheduled before too long. I'd love to see some more 7's out there. Chin Motorsports events are a little more expensive, but it's a quality event with lots of seat time and good instruction. I'll be updating this as I find new track days and as I confirm my attendance at the events.

June 1 Road Atlanta Chin Motorsports
July 1-2 VIR(Full Course) Chin Motorsports
Aug 27-28 VIR(Full Course) Track Daze
Sept. 12-13 Autobahn CC Track Daze
Oct. 17-18 Barber MS Park Chin Motorsports
Oct XX TGPR Speed For Sale Shootout
Nov. 1-2 VIR(Full Course) Chin Motorsports
Nov. 15-16 VIR(Full Course) Track Daze
Nov. 28-29 Road Atlanta Chin Motorsports

Hey, i don't know if your schedule is set in stone, so if it isn't you might want to take a look at an HPDE at Bluegrass Motorsports Park. Its nearing completion this April and looks to be a nice track. Its 30 min south of Cincinnati in the Northern Ky area.

I plan to visit this track at least three times this year, let me know if your interested, i'll sign up and get out there with you.

That's what I'm talking about! I was just about to start a "post here if you know of track days at bluegrass motorsports" thread. Looks like an AWESOME track!! I will def. be hitting it this summer as well. Thanks for the link to the HPDE

Since you have VIR on there, you may want to also consider MazdaDrivers who are running VIR Grand East on June 13-14 and will probably run a second event in the Fall.

Yeah, grand course is awesome, and Mazda Drivers are the only people who run it from what I was told (at least for track days that we can sign up for). I'll definitely be there for that one.

Brent Dalton 01-25-09 08:21 PM

Can I get a link to the Mazda Driver's track day sign up?

My track season just keeps looking better and better :D

Brent Dalton 01-28-09 09:28 PM

Alright, paid and confirmed June 13-14, VIR Grand Course put on by Mazda Driver's. Dig Dug is in, who else is going?

RotarySB 02-10-09 01:56 AM

I've done a track day with Chin Motorsports and I can most definitely say it is a great event with tons of seat time. Just make sure you register as soon as registration is open, all the spots fill up rather quickly.

ArmitageGVR4 02-10-09 08:46 AM

Ah, wish VIR wasn't quite so far. With no tow vehicle and a 4-5 hr drive home, it's a bit of a worry. I'll try to make one of those dates though. NASA's got a VIR event on the 20-22nd of this month already which I was sort of thinking about if the weather looks good.

DigDug 02-10-09 10:57 AM

I'm in the same boat - 4.5 hour drive each way. It's always in the back of my mind, if something were to happen. AAA plus will cover 100 miles of the 250 back home for me, leaving around a $600 tow bill.

Mazda Drivers provides good track time (4x approx 30-min sessions per day). Chin is of course better at 3+ hours per day, but at a significantly higher cost (you can pass anywhere, which is nice). I never liked running with NASA - you only get 3x 20-min sessions, and that's if they're on time with the schedule. Last time they had to combine two groups for the last session to make up for time lost to a racing incident.

ArmitageGVR4 02-10-09 11:48 AM

Agreed about NASA. Less seat time, fallout from accidents during races, combined run groups sometimes. But they are usually lower cost than other club events, and it's nice to be able to spectate real racing in the downtime between sessions. Plus as a member you get 20% off brake pads which adds up fast, free GRM, etc. and their instruction and classroom sessions are by far the best I've seen. I'm thinking for later in this season trying out some TT events with them as well.

Brent Dalton 02-11-09 02:35 AM

I'm doing the NASA event at Barber May 30-31. Hope to see some more FD's there :D

Power_mind 02-12-09 01:08 PM

AAA now has a Plus tow package you can get one tow of 200 miles per year with your membership. So all you'd have to do is borrow a friends trailer at the event and get it 50 miles on your way and then call AAA ;) Free tow home.

I'll be at all of the TrackDaze events ;) and registration has already opened for the first half of the season. The NJ weekend date will probably go pretty quickly. You can also sign up for just one day for all of the events if you are on a tight budget.

They also have season passes available, buy 3 events and you'll get roughly $120, buy 5 events and its almost $300 off. Basically buy 6 events and one of them ends up being free.

Pat, I'll see you at the Mazda Driver's event in June as well as a few others. Also, since you are already going to be at VIR on AUG 27-28, you might as well make it a 4 day and do the Mazda Driver's event AUG 29-30. :D

I'll think about it, but 4 days in Southern Virginia August heat with 2 students a day is BRUTAL.

designfreak 02-19-09 09:10 AM

Im an instructor with Chin as well as NASA and can vouch that you get tons of seat time for the money. Normally Chin gives about 4 hour long sessions per day which actually wares down most novices pretty bad. NASA FL or NASA southeast regions both have great schedules, and put together great HPDEs.

I recently just heard about another club working the circuits in the SE. www.hookedondriving.com

Brent Dalton 02-23-09 01:58 AM

I put this together when I was putting my 2009 schedule together and thought I’d post this so anyone interested has the track dates available here. I know I struggled to find track dates for the longest time. I think there is a large selection of tracks, companies, and dates to choose from below that should help some people… if nothing else other than the convenience of having the information consolidated here. Of course, I don’t get home until May so I didn’t put anything on my schedule until then. If you check the websites listed below, you will find other dates. Also, once again, I put this together for my season so all of the tracks listed are East Coast tracks mostly in the Southeast. Check out the websites for full list of dates.

I'll be there instructing and doing time trials. Stop by. There will be a number of Mazdas and we tend to hang around together. The GA RX-8 club track guys usually don't miss this.

Brent Dalton 03-20-09 05:57 AM

I thought they canceled the TT at Barber on the 29th? Look forward to meeting you guys either way

Brent Dalton 03-24-09 12:53 PM

I just found another HPDE at Nashville Super Speedway On June 20. You can sign up here: http://www.autosportevents.com/

So far, I've confirmed I'll be at:
NSS May 22-23
Barber May 30-31
*prob* be at Bluegrass June 6-7
VIR June 13-14
*prob* Bluegrass June 19
NSS June 20

That basically takes me up through June. More to follow as I confirm dates. Hope to see you guys out there.

Power_mind 04-02-09 06:20 AM

FYI: It is FREE to become a member of Trackdaze. Membership also gives you discounts with participating sponsors.

Brent Dalton 04-13-09 08:22 AM

Anyone know of hotels in the vicinity of Bluegrass? I've found a Ramada Inn so far. Just want to see what else is out there. I also must say, you can save alot of $$$ using the choice hotels discount you receive for being an SCCA member :D I've booked my hotel for Barber and Road Atlanta for end of May/start of June.
