How do you burn out before dragging

I have a set of M/t street drag tires, I ran once with out a burn out (12.4 at 109 at 12 psi)

Set the psi to 18 and did a long burn out with holding my left foot on the brake and the right foot on the gas at about 5000 rpm for about 5 to 10 seconds. When I started...POP! my differential blew out a hole the size of a silver dollar on my rear end.

Should I not burn out, or am I doing it wrong, or do I need a aftermarket rear end?

opinions please?

ive heard that the 3rd gen diffs do this quite frequently with decent power upgrade and sticky tires. i'd search in the 3rd gen section on rearends.

I did the same thing only I made it through the burn out then when the light turned green and I launched and I got nothing. When the track guy pushed me back I heard all kinds of things falling to the ground. When I got out and looked underneath I saw a hole in the rear end housing about the size of a hocky puck. Turns out that my rear end broke mainly cause I didn't maintain it right. The gear oil was old and I hadn't changed it. Ever! From what I gather, if your making around 300 hp you can still run on a stock set up. If you got 350hp or more then you should get racing componants before you break everything.
