Heater core removal plug or bypass hose

Edit: car is a 93 RX-7 FD with a half bridge and a single turbo conversion

Hey all, my heater core started leaking and long story short I am going to remove to save on weight. I would like to plug the two sides cleaning up the engine bay and removing a little more weigh but some places I read to plug and others say only to use a bypass hose as plugging would change the flow path. Anyway just wanted to see what everyone thinks, and if it would be safe to plug them without any overheating problems. I figured it would be better as it would just let more coolant to flow through the the motor anyway. Please let me know what everyone thinks!

Decided on plugging. After looking at the path it comes out of the back of the block and then into the water pump housing into the motor. Figured on plugging as then I wouldn't be adding new hot coolant into the motor. If anyone thinks differently please let me know.
