VA FC/Sparco Seats, Whats the Better deal & best fit.

Hey Guys,
I've already bought an Expired Sparco Corsa that I will need to install a seat back brace for. I paid $500 for the seat and sidemounts(with a slider) and it is in exceptional condition. First question is do you think I overpaid? Second is How well will it fit. The Shoulder area Width is 23.8". I will also need to buy a new 5 point harness.
My Predicament is I have just come across a pair of Sparco Sprint 5 seats that have 2 years left before they expire. The come with sidemounts(and Sliders) and 5 point harnesses that are still valid for 2 more years as well.
The Sprint 5's are 20.5" wide in the shoulder area. I Can get this set for $700, and they are in like new condition as well. I have not sat in the Sprint 5 yet, but the Corsa is Very Comfortable.

I have not gotten into any sanctioned racing yet. Just autcrosses. Next year my goal is to prepare my GTUs for driving in HPDE's etc. I have a Kirk Racing roll bar that will be installed when the seats go in.
I just want you thoughts on these questions.
I don't have any problem buying the Sprint 5's and Re-selling the Corsa. I'd be using the extra Sprint 5 as a passenger seat.

What's the Better deal?
What seats are more comfortable the Sprint 5 looks sonsiderably less comfortable?
What seats will fit the best?

Thanks in advance.

I think that's a lot of money for an expired seat! I paid 50 bucks for mine, but it's only a Sparco Rev.

Yeah, I kinda thought so. But I didn't research seat expiration until after I got it, and I got it off of CL from some guy with an MR2.

The Sprint 5's were very uncomfortable to me. The steel tube frame dug into me just below and behind my armpit. I'm not a big guy either.

If you're just doing HPDE you don't need a new seat. I know of only one club that checks expiration dates and that's Potomac PCA. How tall are you? This past summer we tried every brand of seat mount and none of them would get us low enough.

We ended up having Piper cut out the cross brace and installing Recaro sliders to the floor with Recaro side mounts. The seat is in a perfect position and now we have a ton of helmet clearance.

Good luck!

this is the same reason I'm not looking forward to putting decent seats in my car... I can barely fit in my FC with my helmet on as it is (stupid sunroof...) and I hear that all the aftermarket rails just make you sit up higher.

What is the effect on the car when removing the crossbrace?

I don't have the clearance problem. No Sunroof Here. But I think I'm going to stick with the Corsa. The more I check out the sorint 5's the more uncomfortable they seem.
Thanks guys.

And Myk, When are you coming down to VA again?

I doubt that dinky piece really did anything.

Molotovman, you may want to check out the line of Racetech seats.

Having teched 100's of cars over the years for SCCA Pro I'd likely give a thumbs down to the mount pictured above, need pics without the seat in the rails to decide lol

And yes, that is too dear a price to pay. I paid $150 for my first MOMO Corse seat. A fiberglass or kevlar/carbon backed seat will always rival the steel frame models in comfort, support, and safety.

I'm pretty confidant that Mitch Piper knows what he's doing.
