FC RX7 circuit car suspension ride height/bump clearance
Just a question for you SCCA FC RX7 guys. I’m in Australia and I run an FC RX7 for sports sedan racing. The car is loosely based on a period correct mid 90’s FC circuit car but I have a question on how you SCCA guys run your front wheel to the top of the inner fender/rail clearance.
I know you guys are limited to a 23” tall tire, and
mine is 24” tall being a 235/40 r17 slick so my ride height will always be slightly higher but what’s an acceptable clearance from top of the tire (face of it) to the inner rail inside the top of the fender area?
I have 8kg/448lb front and 6kg/336lb rear springs on coilovers with 2” clearance from the face of the front tire to the inside of the fender well (no plastic liners of course). The car hooks up well and handles well on the track with the softer rates riding over ripple strips and bumps in the track well as well as transferring weight under brakes beautifully but ide still like to lower the ride height some more.
The front control arms are sitting level now as I have a custom front hub setup off what you call in the US a Pontiac G8 I think - Holden SS in Australia. I cut off the front FC spindle, made an adaptor to mount the hubs and R33 Skyline 4 piston calipers (redrilled to 5x114.3) 2” lower than stock which helps the control arms stay level but I’m not sure how to address the lack of inner fender clearance. What do you guys do to get it lower and what clearance from top of tire to inner fender do you run?
