FB GSL Transmission

I am really tempted to put my GSL SE Transmission into my FC for an event at a track that requires lower ratios. I have read in the past that the GSL SE Case is weaker than the FC cased boxes, so my question is how much in the way of HP can this box handle in a race environment? I will not be doing any standing starts, everything from a roll and max rpm will be about 8700. car weight all in will be about 2600 lbs.

Will it live? The stock FC box has lasted about 7 years of race use. The GSLSE box was modded to use the FC tailhousing, so its a full bolt in.

Thanks,

Eric

Is it a GSL or GSL-SE box? They are different. GSL-SE has a much taller 5th and has an extra vent on the driver's side of the bellhousing, where it gets in the way of the beehive oil line on a 12A car. GSLs got the same gearbox as all other 12A cars of a given year, with all of the running half-year changes that entails.

Practically speaking, racing life seems to be more related to how they were treated in life rather than theoretical advantages. I have had early 12A boxes (1980) last a very long time and I have had FC boxes blow up the first time I shifted into 3rd.

I WISH I could get seven years out of a box!

It's a GSLSE box. I never get into 5th so I don't care. I recognize the jump from 3rd to 4th is greater, but the closer 1st, 2nd and 3rd spread is very tempting.
