Fb or FC for Racecar.

Well i am trying to decide what to pick, a FB or FC. I could find a nice FB for cheap, and thats very aluring seeing how i am gonna be buying a daily driver 2 or 3 month after this purches. However i have heard some bad thing about the FB (power, rear end) that make me kind of timid. Now the FC, the NA's have more power and independent (sp) rear suspension, but cost more. I am looking at spending around 3000Cdn or less. This car will be used for Auto-X to start then maybe later used for Solo I

Thanks.

I disagree. FB all the way! Cheaper cars, cheaper parts and they are cheaper to build into road racers if you decide to go that way. Unless your running autox in stock, then I agree FC.

FC- ITS
FB- ITA, IT7, ITR, spec7

Both can go on to stuff like EP, GT so I wont go there.

Everything said in this post is my opinion and is thus probably wrong.
Yep.

The "real" 1st-gens ('79-80 aka "series 1") are also SA's in the US.

Could someone give me more reasons why the the FB is better at the FC for stock auto crossing? Is it just weight?

I'm considering either of them for the sole purpose of racing it in stock class auto-X. Of course, the FB is the lightest but I was told the FC has a much better rear suspension, 50/50 weight, and handles better. If it matters, it has to be NA, so I'm not considering the TII. If the FB is indeed better, then I'll consider looking for a GSL-SE which may be hard to find. FC's seem abundant however.

Thanks in advance "7" owners!

Silkworm and I both agree on an FC for autox in stock class. I have to concede that in stock trim, the FC is a better choice.

Hey,
I dont have a car yet so i wont make it this season, but im looking to join the scca and start racing. I want to race IT, not sure if it is in chicago region or not. Anyway, i was planning on racing FC just because I know a few people that race FC's and would be able to help me out. If you live in chicago land and would like to help a teenage learner making an FB into a IT car PM me .

So it looks like the FC would be the way to go ...

I'm not sure about that. Others say FB is the way to go for AutoX. However, I have to acknowledge Rx7carl's comments to a higher stand. I've read the Mazspeed forums for over a month and Carl knows what he's talking about since he races his FB. I think Silkworm is also credible since he races too.

Anyways, thanks for help. Looking for more replies if possible. Right now, I think I'm set on an FC.

Thanks for the compliment . But if you notice I had the admin change the ranking to say "knows absolutely nothing" LOL. Anyway, I think it depends on what your goals are. You guys who are scoping out ideas and getting opinions are doing it right. Keep asking away. FWIW an FB is very uncompeteitive in ITA, but I believe the FC's are competitive in ITS, Silkworm help me out on this. But some regions have IT7/ITR which is ITA FB's only. So we only race each other, which keeps the FB a good IT candidate.

Oh sure, the FC is competitive, but the newer E36 BMW 325s are shaping up to be the new gorilla in ITS.. Kinda hard to compete against cars with a claimed 230HP that only weigh 200 lbs more than my car with ~180..

The 1st gen is good for IT7, but also Pro7 and Spec 7, which have a few more rules on what you can do, but make it about the cheapest way to get into wheel to wheel racing that you can find.

I would choose the FB for auto-X.

1. Not expensive

2.might sound a little silly but I like the fact that the car is not as wide as the FC (dont know by how much tough). Very heplfull to slip through the tighter gates.

3.When I tested an FC on a solo course, I found that the gears were a little long, well I perfered the shorter rations of the FB. Note that this was a very short test...

4.I am FB biased
