As for strictly driving books my favorites are:

Carroll Smith-Drive to Win
Carroll is a world renowned race engineer

Carl Lopez-Going Faster:Mastering the art of Race Driving.
This is basically Skip Barber's 5 day race school without the $2500 price

Both available at Amazon.com

Keep in mind these are competition books, not much relates to the street. Being a good street driver hasd nothing to do with talent or ability, it has to do with making good decisions that lesson your chances of something going wrong.

I'll add in:

"Secrets of Solo Racing" by Henry A. Watts.
- available at your local Barnes & Nobles

"Sports Car and Competition Driving" by Paul Frere and Phil Hill
- also available at B & N.

Good books to re-acquaint your brain with good technique and how to get the most out of your car.

All of Carroll Smith's books are good. Most of them are about race car design and prep, and are very informative.
