In-car videos of Speed World Challenge Series

Two videos from David Farmer's Z06 at Limerock and Mosport. The Mosport video has 1-2 minutes of Brad Flowers' (I believe that is his name) RX-7 at the beginning of the race.

I wonder if anyone can comment on the disparity of engine performance within the same class. For example, I saw the Z06 fly by the RX-7 on a straight and then I saw both the Audi and BMW leave the Z06 behind. Sure many of the differences can be attributed to driver talent, but in some cases it seemed like there were other factors. I guess it probably boils down to the budgets of each team.

I could not read any numbers or markings on the FD. The best that I can say (from watching the vid) is that "it was a white car."

Yes that was his car. I was there that weekend. I went over to their pits just to check it out. But the guy that rented it from him was a dumb ***. They didnt know what the **** they were doing it was funny. They went throught a few motors that weekend. I'm pretty sure the first one blew not even 15 mins into the first practice session on friday ...

I am an official with the Speed World Challenge series and can comment on the GT class if you wish. The cars are actually quite competitve throughout the rank with a few exceptions. The Petit car is being rented for the season by Gump Motorsports and they are having typical teething problems with it. The Morgan isn't up to speed, nor a couple others. The rules are continually examined and altered to provide the most level playing field for the competitors and the best show for our audiences. We use a blend of restrictor plates, boost controllers, rewards weight, cam allowances, etc. for each individual chassis so the races are just that, races. Seasoned sportscar fans will agree we put on a great show. Hell, more passing in 45 mins. then an entire season of F1

Thanks for the insight. I guess I thought Pettit would have worked out all those issues already as Cam drove in the series last year.

Would you happen to know what kind of boost the RX7 is or is allowed to run?

Great video!

In the Lime Rock video. After a few cars went off ......you can clearly see the Pettit FD... (2 car ahead of the #35 David Farmer car) while everyone follows the pace car. Wish they had the camera in the FD so we could hear his motor.

Thanks for the link

RCERON - I could tell you... but then I'd have to kill you lol That information isn't shared amongst competitiors typically hence it doesn't become public knowledge often. I've seen boost spikes in the late twenties (psi) on other cars in the GT class though.

OC94Rx7 - The RX sounds pretty but not very unique amongst it's competitors (except at idle). Last Year's Audi S4 sounded lovely with it's loud BOV, and the M3's make a wonderful note at WOT.

Far as i've heard, and read from the rulebook, the RX7 is fairly handicapped in Speed GT. As in stock turbo @ 12 psi, and according to the rules i read, and only allowed to weigh 2650 lbs... while Audis and others are allowed to be 2750....

Granted i don't know any of the adjustments allowed, but by the rulebook, theres no way it could really compete... and i'm not surprised since none of the big-buck factory efforts would want a 10-year old car running with them.
