boxing in frame rails
boxing in frame rails
Hey, i was searching around and found this for MIatas http://flyinmiata.com/index.php?dept=15
That is real nice, Anyone sell or fabricate this sort of stuff?
I need to measure my buddies miata, but what are the chances this thing fits a 2nd gen rx7? Just the frame rail part, not the middle

Measure it and post your results, this could be pretty useful. The autoexe product listed here at corksport might fit the bill too:

Drag racers do this all the time. If you make enough torque and launch har you can actually twist the chassis on many cars. If you put in a rollcage it won't really help to dbox the frame rails unless they are weak or damaged.
Im sure it still helps a lot even though most of us have coupes
Look into stiffening the chassis with foam. I helped my girlfriend do that to her Miata, and I've done it to my FC. It really made a big difference in both cars, but most notable in her Miata.
It would be nice to use the frame rails as jacking points.
Since I'm in the middle of rust removal (replacing floorpan, frame rails, rockers), I'll see if I can get some pics this weekend. I am using 18 ga steel for the inner and outer frame rails. My brake is only 36" so the rails are going to be two pieces butt welded together.
I am also using 4lb/cubic foot urethane foam in every cavity. I won't have any results for a couple months, as I still have a TON of work to do and am running low on money (college induced poverty).
These are the outer frame rails that I got welded in over spring break. There is still an infinite amount of weld grinding left.
