From reading the rules posted here, it would seem a V8 is OK to run provided you run at the correct weight. It certainly would be illegal in SM2.

I went ahead and sent an email to seb@scca.com and it looks like my interpretation of the rules is correct.

Here is the response I got:

"Hi, Doug,

Yes, engines of a different manufacturer than the chassis are allowed in XP. As you’ve quoted, engines and drivetrains are unrestricted except for location and orientation; so manufacturer of the engine is unrestricted.

Alternate bolt-on subframes are also allowed in XP. 1.a. of XP in Appendix A says, “Chassis components attached by removable fasteners (e.g. Bolt-on subframes) may be modified or replaced without penalty.”

A Mazda RX-7 with a Chevrolet engine and custom bolt-on subframe is compliant with the Solo Rules for XP.

Hope this helps.

Anyway, this is good news.

The 03 cobra differential is also allowed:

The diff and axles are also unrestricted components of the drivetrain per 7.a.

5 says, “Any front and rear suspension system type (MacPherson/Chapman strut, double A-arm, live axle, etc.) may be used.” So you could also change out the spindles and outer joints, too.

But you don’t have to. J

SO, an LS1 FD would get smoked in E-mod, but how might it do in XP?
