hey guys, I have an 86 GXL and my stock clutch is about dead, and I can't remember if clutch is included as a free mod for stock class or what an aftermarket clutch would do to me, classing-wise. Anybody know off the top of their heads?

Do you recommend throwing another stock clutch back in, or an aftermarket? Ignoring the potential classing complications (if any), from a reliability point of view, do you feel the stock clutch is good enough for 10-15 autocrosses per year?

If aftermarket, do you have a specific recommendation (car is also a intended to eventually be my daily driver, once I replace the clutch and pulsation damper..

Pretty sure you can change the clutch in CSP.

Considering the price of a stock clutch from mazda comp, stock is definitely the way to go, IMHO

Locally I imagine your competitors will not care if you run an aftermarket clutch/pressure plate. Now the flywheel is different all together. That will definetly put you in CSP. Just let them know you are running a racing beat clutch(or whatever you purchase) and they will not mind, unless you start beating them

If you're not winning a divisional tour or at nationals, nobody is going to put up a fight about an aftermarket clutch. Most non-go fast mods are pretty acceptable at the stock level ... hoses, drop-in air filters, clutch, etc. I get away with a Fluidyne radiator.

And is it legal? No, it's not. Will anyone care? Probably not.

I run a ClutchMasters Stage IV clutch on a stock flywheel in F-Prepared Solo II and SM in Solo I for over two years now (edit: the clutch is not what bumps the car into F-Prepared).

The Clutchmasters site may lead you to believe this is a race only clutch. But I think their stage 4 clutch is VERY streetable. It is much easier to drive than the Street/Strip clutch that MazdaTrix sells. My wife can even drive the car on and off the trailer with out stalling it.

If it is in your price range I highly recommend the Clutchmasters clutch. But the stage IV might be overkill if you do not plan on doing major mods to give your car more HP. So you might consider their Stage I, II or III that is closer to stock.
