Say hello to Mr.Wankel

sorry about the F bomb. i was just really frustrated.
will the thread be brought back? i dont care about talking BS about gonzz, but I DO think other members have a RIGHT to see how he handles himself and does business. i believe that is the case for ALL members. so NO ONES bad, or good thread for that matter, needs to be deleted.

I think Merciless said that unless there's a backup somewhere, which isn't likely, then they're gone. The good side is that Gonz was banned, so at the moment, it's not an issue. The bad side is that I don't know if that was a temporary ban or a permaban. If it's not permanent then it's a shame that your thread in particular was deleted, that was one of the pretty big examples of how he behaved on the board. Tom's thread was another good example when things didn't go his way. There are others that are still up though, so even if he does come back, there's still enough evidence to find if someone were searching for his name.

What the hell is your problem? You seriously need to get a life. Was my post in ANY way leaned towards saying, "XxMerlinxX are you going to sevenstock?" NO! So why do you answer with some dumb answer? Was my post made in a threatening way? NO! Do I have any problems with Rx7doctor to want to "jump him"? NO! Lastly, Do I need to answer to YOU?? NO!
If Rx7doctor wants to know why I asked him that, He can PM me. Its none of your business.. So why is it so hard for you to stay away from me?

First of all, it wasn't even about you. Secondly, it was a joke. The sentence started with "lol" and my next sentence started with, "On a more serious note" meaning I obviously wasn't serious to begin with. So maybe you should chill out and not take things so personally.

Does the software this forum uses allow for a trader rating system? I use this on other car forums and it is helpful to click the trader rating & see how the potential buyer/seller has done in the past. The thread from the transaction is linked, and you give them a + or - that affects their number. You can also write a short summary of the deal.
If not, then the GG/BG system is about all you can do. It is sad that this forum seems to have so many problems as compared to the others I belong to.
Thanks for your efforts. It is an unfortunate truth that you cannot protect people from themselves.

since i dont have access to backup or anything, there isnt really much i can do to bring the old threads back alive...we can only deal with what we got now

So who should we inquire with, that will actually respond in a semi-timely manner, and does have access to the information (or can at least find out whether or not it is still in existence)? Or perhaps you can make such an inquiry?
Thanks for your responses.

We might as well resign ourselves to the fact that the person who screwed up and went deletion crazy is not going to take responsibility and other mods aren't going to point the finger and sell him out, nor should they. We're past the point of no return so there's no point in digging up the past.
That said, it is a bit lame that I and others now have zero documented positive feedback after years of positive transactions (never a single piece of negative feedback); I am already experience skiddish transactions, and a lack of trust as a result of this, as I'm sure others are. Now I suppose I could ask for feedback whenever I sell of buy parts on the forum, but I don't feel like begging nor am I going to kiss *** to try to generate feedback. I am also weary of the fact that some not-so-upstanding members are given a clean slate to scam with as new members have no way of checking up on past transactions.
My Noltec write-up also got deleted and I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg. I suspect that a lot of useful information has already been discarded for the sake of saving space on the server drives.
In my opinion, this 9 month rule should only apply to the FS/Wanted section, period. If drive space becomes an issue the hardware should be upgraded. I'm all for getting rid of out-of-date information; however, I am not so certain that you can quantify how up-to-date something is by its calender age. If we want to save space on the server we should be consolidating useful information and getting rid of what is useless or redundant - not throwing away data simply because it hasn't been bumped in 9 months.
The mods are doing a great job; however, I do see this cleaning method as detrimental to the stock of information on this site. If we're running out of space perhaps additional storage space is in order?

As far as I recall someone was instructed to start a clean up of all sections. Afterwards it was found out that the Bg section should have not been touched. The regular sections though get cleaned up every once in a while that I know of. Even all of my feedback is mostly gone along with many others.
Kevin, to answer your question. I was told that this information was gone and there is no way to retrieve it. I tried by going in on searches and finding links but they all lead no where.

If all the positive feedback was just wiped out, how do we know which sellers can be trusted? This really makes me wonder about buying anything here now. On one of the "for sale" threads RX7doctor just wiped out all my posts for who knows why. I didn't flame anyone; in fact I just pointed out inconsistencies in the listing and then made an offer. Maybe we can put the posts back and let the members decide if I "flamed" someone. What that says to the members, is that if you have a "for sale" thread and you don't like the questions, just complain and a moderator will make the thread all clean again. I wonder how many other threads are "doctored" up?

This pretty much states why I removed your posts.

WankelsRevenge - Wow, thank you for that intelligent comment. However, you say you can get those cars all day long for nothing in Cali and yet your SN says you are from Northeast USA, complete opposite side then Cali.
Carlos and I have spoken personally on the phone and agree that you are the exact type of person and reason why this forum is called the "evil forum" to most in the RX community.
To come into my post and bash a car you have never seen and make hypotheticals is crazy.
How many RX's have you owned? How many engines have you rebuilt? raced?
A 12A is hardly "tired" at 130K miles. Ask any Spec7 guy and they will tell you the engines just start to wake up at 100K miles, lol. Am I stating the engine is perfect, nope - but it served me well in my '84 GS.
The '85 GSL is hardly a parts car. You cant find FBs this straight and clean all day long... trust me, I've owned 8 of them now in the last 6 years and that is JUST FBs.
I never said the only issue is bad gas, if you'll notice, I also mentioned that the FPR died last time I drove it - and last time I checked a carb with too much fuel pressure running unregulated will also cause it to not run.
My engine is fine, the gas is bad, it needs an FPR and a paint job. If I dont sell the car, it doesn't hurt my feelings - its a very nice FB with a ton of potential that I will be glad to paint for WAY less than $3k in the spring.
If you do the work yourself, nothing is OVERLY expensive. If you have no interest in my car, then don't reply in my thread. Thank you.

The issue occured because the GG/BG section was setup as a child forum of the classifieds instead of being arranged in a seperate and distinct section.
When the prune action was selected for the classifieds it inadvertantly included the GG/BG section as well because it was setup as a child forum instead of existing as its own independant forum area.
That issue is something that has since been resolved. As far as data recovery that would require someone with dedicated server access (if that data is even kept this long).
FWIW - The original intention of deleting older threads in the "Classifieds" was to pacify the complaints that there were too many threads in the section many of those threads being several years old. This was not a server space issue, rather it was a cleanup in response to your fellow members requests.

Thank you RX7Doctor, you confirmed my worst fears by linking what the SELLER said, and none of my concerns about the listing. This is exactly the point I was trying to make.
It is most disconcerting, but, at least we all know what could happen in the FS section here. I for one am afraid now.

RX7doctor, You don't see what the concern was? Did you bother to read my last post before deleting it? Apparently not. Otherwise you'd know what my concern(s) were. Further and final evidence of my original point made.
