what should have been a no-brainer this morning has turned into a real head scratcher. i assumed that the rs232 would have a wideband 0-5 v outlet that would wire to the aux port on my datalogit. but no. where the heck do i get the WB output from techedge (1.5) to wire to the datalogit? i double checked the techedge inx sheet, searched both techedge, datalogit and forum archives and came up short. (obviously it must be there somewhere)... thanks in advance for any help.

Do you have the display unit?

if so, you can probably take apart the connector on the display unit, and carefully tap into two of the wires with two fresh wires... then you can run these over to AN1 and AN2 on the datalogit box. That way you still have your original display as well as the output running to the Datalogit box.

I -think- the correct pins to get your data off of are PIN 6 and 7 but I'm only 99.99% sure ... it's been a while since I set mine up.

Anyhow after you have the correct two pins tapped into and then run over to your AN1 and AN2 you need to set up the Datalogit software to use it. I think there are instructions on how to do that on here.... if not, PM me and I'll make sure you get it done!

i have the TE piece and the display that has two serial leads out of it. the longer is to the wideband unit and the other is an out for datalogging (i bought it last year- i think it is the ver. 1 w/ the 5301 diplay unit) - correct?
question is, could i use the cable that is supposed to be used for the datalogging output to plug into the FCEdit box? as in buy a female serial connector and use the appropriate wires instead of having to pull apart the other cable and solder on to the pins as maxcooper has pictured in the files on the yahoo group?

Pin 7 from the DB9 goes to AN1. (signal)
Pin 6 goes to AN2. (grnd)

If you don't want to build a cable, give me a shout and I'll send you one of my extras.

In the FC-Edit software, goto SETUP, then AUX.
You want to click on the "Poly" box for AN1-AN2.

a=1.6344
b=-2.1693 (note that is a negative number)
c=9.9414

Click in the checkbox for "Delta AN1-AN2"
(I call this area the "Tony" feature)

Hit OKAY.

GOTO the WINDOW menu and click on MONITOR.

In the DATALOGIT grouped panel, click on:
Basic, Sensors, Aux A/D, Map Ref, Advanced.
Click the upper right X to close the window.

Go log.

With the TE 1.5 unit you can also use the linear WB output, pins 4 & 5 and wire like Badog listed.

SETUP similar but you use the regular setup rather than using "poly" ov = 9 5v = 19 because it is linear.

Another point to note is that using the WBLin output eliminates the problem of slight variances and interaction of readings between the 5301 display and the logged readings when using both simultaniously, as discussed in other threads. The WBLin output is buffered per an email I got from Peter at Tech Edge.

 

Does the linear WB output of 1.5 come from the optional Data Access cable ? Change the voltage figures for an1 & an2 in the regular setup?

you need to take the signal and ground from the DB9 connector on the 1.5 unit, (there is a connector pin diagram on the Tech Edge web site) if you have the 5301 display unit you can take the gray connector that attaches to the 1.5 unit apart and solder wires into pins 4&5 or you can make up a separate cable using the same type of DB9 connector available at radio shack, or you can use a computer serial cable and cut off one end and use the appropriate wires from those same pins.

Setup an1 & an2 , check delta
0v=9....5v=19, don't use poly

 

I just got my AEM wideband and it has a "switched ground" wire. Would that be what should go to AN2? I currently just have the 0-5V wire going to AN1.

I read my butt off before this thing arrived, and now I find I'm still confused...

 

Oops, make that "signal ground." From what I gather, that should be connected to AN2 and the delta checkbox checked?

okay, im sorry to bring this back from the dead, but im trying to make the connection between wideband box and datalogit box. i took the wideband box apart and found that the serial connector is not setup the way you described. i have a red, white, and black wire going to pins 6, 8, & 9 (in respective order). anybody have any pointers on what the deal is with that?

Can you use the RS232 logger cable (with 6 pins) to connect to the datalogit? Was thinking maybe pin 3 (orange) for signal, and pin 4 (white) for ground?
