Power FC Wide Band O2 Sensors

Question Wide Band O2 Sensors

For those of you using a wideband O2 sensor of who have gone to the dyno and used one, where does it get it's readings from?
Do you have another bung welded to your downpipe, if so where?
Do you remove the stock O2 sensor temporarily?
Or do you use the kind that go in the tail pipe?

I'm thinking about getting another bung weled to my DP but i'm not sure exactly where it should be. Or if it's even worth it.

The M&W UEGO Linear O2 that I use can be mounted either way.
Since it is owned and used by a goup(5) of us, we use the tailpipe mount.


Since they state that temperatures above about 800F shortens its life,
if you mount one to the exhaust with a bung, it would be better to mount it further away from the DP such on the end of the MP or on the catback. The UEGO also has its own heater(about 600F).

Hey Chuck if you dont mind me asking how much did you guys end up paying for it? Does it datalog? What is the approx life span of one if its in the dp where its over 800F quite often, any idea? I've heard the life span of some widebands can be a little as 500-1000miles.

Each of us(5) donated $225, so that puts it at $1125.

The only comment about life expectancy was 50 hours on high lead content fuel.

50 hours isnt very much!!!! I guess if you broke it down to miles that would be about what I heard.

Once the sensor goes bad how much is it to replace??? Isnt it around $600-$700

I'd like to have access to a wide band but unless you do like you guys did it would be very expensive!!!!!!

I thought they made some that last for long periods of time

NOTE: my comment states that the 50 hours was for high leaded fuel! This does not apply for non-leaded fuel.

Every wideband sensor I've seen is advertised at about 50hrs with leaded fuel and 500 hrs with unleaded.

Cost of the sensor to replace depends on which sensor is used. Motec, FJO, and the DIY-EFI use the NTK Honda lean burn civic OEM wideband sensor. It is between $120-200 to replace, but some sensors are much more expensive.

I have access to a dyno for free fuel tuning only. It can only read up to 300 HP. In order to use it the guys say I need to have a bung welded onto my DP to accept their wideband O2 sensor. I would just use the standard O2 bung but it's such a PITA to get it in and out I figured I would mount it lower down the pipe so all we have to do is raise the car a bit and screw it on.

So by chucks statement it seems then that if I place it farther down the pipe it's realy not going to change the readings much. I had EGT's stuck in my head for some reason, the farther down the pipe the lower the temps.

My car shouldn't be putting out that much yet.
Weguesstimate the power to be 280 WHP.

Or maybe they are hoping it does burn up, so they can get a new one.
