Unhappy What do you think? I need advice bad..

I grew tired of the smoke and fumes my car produced when first starting it up in the morning. I read the manual which came along with my PFC and I changed the following things:

1) On the Inj Map, I changed values where the car idled. It read 1.214, so I changed them to 1.250.

2) On the water temp, I changed the settings at +20C and +30 C to lower values. +20 was 1.59..now is 1.35..and the +30 was 1.29 and now is 1.21.

3) I changed the PIM percentage at 1000 RPM from 100% to 98%

End result: car doesn't smoke as bad upon initial startup and the gas fumes are almost gone.

Did I do "the right kind of things"? Or are these values usually "bad" for my engine??

>>Yup, normal, leaned it out when you water temps are low

3) I changed the PIM percentage at 1000 RPM from 100% to 98%

>>Leaned it out a couple points @ idle

End result: car doesn't smoke as bad upon initial startup and the gas fumes are almost gone.

Basically you leaned it out a bit on cold start ups (water temp correction) and a couple points all the time around @ 1000rpm (PIMS). It is normal for cars with a PFC to idle very rich, and you didn't make any MASSIVE changes so you did good.

#1 and #3 seem contradictory though. In #1 you actually added more fuel going from 1.214 to 1.250 in the "idle areas" and then in #3 you did a flat across the rpm reduction of fuel.

Reason I changed the value from 1.214 to 1.250 is because of the air fuel ratio. From what I understand, the map was based on a 14.7 to 1 ratio.

In the manual, they illustrated changing the ratio from 14.7 to 12 to 1, which is leaner..correct? If so...then 14.7/12.0=1.225 which is a larger number than 1.214 even though the mix is leaner. Is this correct?

If the above is correct..then I changed the ratio from 14.7 to 11.8 at idle: 14.7/11.8=1.25 which should be leaner.

By changing from 1.214 to 1.25, you *richened* that area. Also 12 is *richer* than 14.7. I wouldn't adjust those values with that line of thinking regardless, you need true values not projected/target values.

Related note....You really need an accurate A/F reading not the theoretical for Inj Map changes. Then at that point you can change your fuel correction map value by calculating your desired A/F into what the Actual shows on a wideband A/F gauge.

I thought numbers below 14.7, such as 12.0 meant a leaner mix. That is good to know. Pardon my ignorance...but I'm learning.
